Spotlessly clean. I didn't get the name of the young man who waited on us, the receipt says Henry? but he was charming and efficient, and ever so polite, we loved him!! A real credit to the establishment!! Food was exceptional, absolutely delicious!! My son was visiting home for Christmas after spending a few years traveling abroad and had come from Canada, and had missed fish and chips so much!! The server could not have been more welcoming, which is just what you need after a few years away. If I could give more than five stars, I would
I chose Harbourside Fish and Chips for a takeaway meal while on a brief visit to Plymouth. It advertises the fact that it was voted 3rd best fish and chip shop in 2018 but nothing more recent. The counter area was bright, welcoming, clean and tidy. I did not visit the upstairs dine in area. There was a range of food options including chips, fish, sausages, chicken strips, burgers and kid's meal. The staff were friendly and helpful and our food was cooked to order so it was fresh and hot. The food was very tasty and simply delicious. The only issue I had was the cost. We ordered 1 fish, 2 chips, 2 sausages, 2 fruit shoot bottles and some chicken strips and it cost more than £30. Apparently dining in costs a bit more. Nevertheless I would recommend this restaurant.
Very nice here, staff are courteous and polite, and fish and chips, first class mFood: 5/5
Absolutely outstanding fish and chips! We had the regular cod, chips and mushy peas meal deal with additional teas, eating in. Both agree it was the best fish and chips we have ever had!Food: 5/5
Oh WOW, what amazing meals we had. Fish and chips were just beautiful white flaky meat, and chips were just perfect. Battered saysage and chips were awesome. The service was great. Friendly team with smiles on their face. Will be back on our next visit to Plymouth. Best fish and chips yet.Food: 5/5
The worst fish and chips I have ever had! Fish was extremely chewy and tasted old, wasn’t fresh and fall apart like you would expect, chips were undercooked and massively lacked in flavour! £23 for two small cod and chips Is ridiculous considering the quality, I would be more than happy to pay that if the food was good. Will not return! Such a shame that’s it’s the only fish and chips you can get on the Barbican, if it was elsewhere I think it would close
I popped in here with a mate because we were looking for somewhere that was gluten free and this place had a gluten free sign on the window. When I asked what was gluten free, they said everything. I had a battered sausage and chips, which was lovely. The staff were friendly and welcoming, so we will return. Dietary restrictions: They had a gluten free sign on the window, and when I asked what was gluten free, they told me everything was. I had a battered sausage and chips and it was lovely.
Expensive but tasty and good quality big portionsFood: 5/5
We stopped here on a whim while strolling through the area. We were seated upstairs, and had a great view out onto the street and docks. My wife had the cod, mini fish and chips and though I ordered the haddock mini fish and chips I was in advertently brought the full-size one. Sometimes mistakes happen during ordering. So it was a few dollars more, I didn’t mind because the fish was absolutely delicious. For us the true test of good fish and chips is partially if it’s still crispy at the last bite. This one absolutely was. The serving of mushy peas was huge, and my wife and I probably could’ve split one. Henry, our way to it was a delight. Some locals that have been coming there for years struck up a conversation with us from the next table, and we had a delightful conversation to go along with our meal. If you’re looking for fish and chips in the area, this one is a winner!
I was in town for work, and my colleague and I headed to the Barbican as I knew there were plenty of places to eat. We walked the streets and selected the Harbourside because of the sign in the window that they had won 3rd place in a national award for their Fish&Chips. We quickly came to realise why. We were greeted in a friendly manner and informed that there was seating upstairs as well as the takeaway. We opted for this as it was raining heavily. The waitress on duty was friendly and helpful, I selected the regular Haddock with chips and gravy along with tartar sauce. Even the sauce was great! The chips were lovely, and there were plenty of them. The fish was beautiful, a nice light but crispy batter and a decent portion for me without being too much. Whenever I am in Plymouth again, I shall definitely be coming back, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve in this year's awards.
