Story

Bookstore Brierlow Bar is one of the country’s largest independent bookshops, offering incredible breadth and depth of titles and subject areas, for both general and specialist booklovers.

20,000 different titles in stock at any given time, covering over 50 category classifications including archaeology, architecture, the arts, biography, books for children, classics, cookery, countryside, crafts, entertainment, fiction (of all genres), gardening, history, local subjects, maps, military, music, nature, outdoor pursuits, philosophy, poetry, reference, religion, science, sport, transport, travel and many, many more.
Knowledgeable, friendly staff are on hand at all times, in a spacious, relaxing atmosphere in which you can browse at leisure.A selection of budget price music CDs are also available, starting from just £0.99 and covering a wide variety of musical styles including classical, popular, jazz, folk, blues, rock, country and many more. We also have an extensive selection of quality greeting cards, not normally found on the high street.

95% of books are on sale at half price, and in most cases even less!

Bookstore Brierlow Coffee Bar is now open for business! Come and join us for a freshly ground coffee (we are proud to serve Fair Trade), or sample one of our Gold Award winning, loose leaf Novus teas. We have scrumptious sweet treats made by the wonderful Bridge Bakehouse too. And this is just the beginning! Over the coming months, we hope to expand our little seating area and serve light lunches such as salads, sandwiches, soups and paninis.

Bookstore Brierlow Bar boasts a large, free car park with picnic tables, and the rivers Dove and Manifold are just a short distance away. We welcome coaches but please make an appointment first

National Book Tokens are available and accepted here, and Bookstore Gift Vouchers are also available in £5 denominations. A book ordering service is also available.

The principles of Bookstore Brierlow Bar are simple - keen pricing, a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere and enormous choice - “more books, more choice, more value!”

Fantastic book store, it has everything from high level educational books to science fiction. With a lovely cafe that sells lots of locally sourced items like Peak District tea. Lots of parking and outdoor seating to have a read or a brew! I've been going here since I was little and it's never disappointed. They also support local artists, with a small gallery.

This is one of the best book stores around and it's a shame we live so far away. We only get to visit a few times a year usually when were passing to go camping. There is a book for everyone they have such a wide chose of books. There a little cafe but I've not tried it yet. The book store is dotted with comfy chairs also. My favourite part is the kids corner my children love it and their is a very wide range of children's books for all ages.

Been many times before and it's always worth a visit. Amazing selection of well priced books to suit all tastes from children, hobbies, thriller paper backs and specialist hardbacks. In recent years has a much bigger coffee shop with good food and drink (so you can browse the books longer!!!)

We enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours browsing the books, and having lunch in the cafe. The books were very reasonably priced. The cafe food was lovely, and had plenty of gluten free options.

A welcome pitstop on our tour to the Highlands on motorbikes. Great place to sit outside in the sunshine & watch bikes go past. Friendly staff, great coffee, good selection of homemade cakes incl gluten free. Large car park of compacted gravel but there is some hardstanding just next to the A515.
