Story

Hever Castle is an important historic castle on the English landscape, once the family home of one of England’s most famous Queens – Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I.

The castle is a romantic double moated 13th century castle which houses historic 16th century portraits, paintings, furniture, tapestries and treasures.

Comprehensive information on the history of Hever Castle can be found in the guide book and audio tours are available from the Hever Shop, Visitor Centre or castle entrance.

Visitors can explore the magnificent gardens for all seasons which include Italian, Rose and Tudor gardens, topiary, yew maze and splashing water maze, or take a stroll around the informal areas of Sunday Walk and Anne Boleyn’s Walk.

Hever hosts a number of special events throughout the season including gardening events with the Head Gardener and his team. Family fun include Jousting Tournaments each summer and is one of our most popular events; visit our website for up to date information.

A truly unique and fun experience. The castle has been faithfully restored and is now an excellent showcase of the Tudor History period. Often known as the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, there is a wealth of information about her and her courtship and marriage to Henry VIII. There is also information about his other wives, and the Astor Family that later acquired the Castle and how they restored it. There are audio guided tours and it's a popular school trip destination as there is so much rich history to get absorbed in. Outside of the Castle is the beautiful ground with a large half Moon pond, the water maze, Anne Boleyn's orchard and the Italian Garden. All beautiful and maintained, it's truly beautiful in the summer. It makes for a popular wedding and event venue!

Particularly lovely in the summer, but a good trip all year round. The gardens are beautiful and the new children's play area is fantastic and accessible to people with limited mobility as well. The cafe is fairly reasonably priced, although we probably wouldn't use it if we didn't get the discount attached to our membership cards. The Christmas event (Twelve Days of Christmas) was excellent, really well done. There are sometimes other feature days, which have included Second World War exhibitions, and the jousting is always brilliant. If taking a picnic, take a blanket as there are no picnic tables available. If the water maze is open, visit it last and take a full change of clothes unless you want to be soaked for the rest of the day!

Lovely day out, much to see. The castle is very interesting inside, a real journey into a world past. Some actors in costume make look the whole experience interesting. The good state of the room and furniture allows you to appreciate the architecture and style of life during the Tudor period. Keep an eye on Ann Boleyn, this castle is very much about her. The ground is really beautiful, with great Italian style gardens and a lake where sometimes you can go on a boat.

Fantastic grounds with a wide variety of gardens and activities from mazes to make walks, waterfalls and secret areas. Immaculately kept. Italian gardens especially pretty with lake at the end. Topiary impressive. Castle was well worth a visit, especially if you like the Tudors and Anne Boleyn. Very well done. Worth a visit but is quite pricey. Good value if you are using the bed and breakfast ad you get in for free.

If you want to have a wonderful day in the nature with the surroundings of a castle and old staff and finally relax in front of a lake...well go straight here. I loved this garden. The castle itself is pretty small but exciting but the garden all around...is magnificent. If it is a sunny day, go there early in the morning so you can have a stroll around the whole garden which is really big. And prepare yourself for a wonderful experience in the nature. Absolutely recommended for families!!! I look forward to visiting it again!
