A little customer service goes a long way, it's a shame there was none to be found when returning a car to Hertz at Manchester airport... The returns officer spoke to me only in 2 to 3 word sentences "wait over there.." outside in the cold wet Manchester night... did not make eye contact or even offer a hello or good evening, just "keys?..."

The returns officer then proceeded to commit an extensive double check with an inspection lamp all while not speaking, which left me feeling like he was trying hard to find a reason to charge me the excess on the vehicle. I returned the vehicle immaculate except a few biscuit crumbs round the children's car seats, again all returned as received so made me feel pretty mistrusting of the gentleman and the Hertz returns depot.  A fairly poor customer experience, a smile and a hello goes a long way to creating happy return customers...

Rented a car. When returning it a small scratch was found. Fair enough I thought, I should have looked closer when picking up the car... However, the Hertz employee remembered this particular scratch, since it was placed in an odd location. Seems they forgot to note it down when the car was last returned. Great, no problem then? No, I still got fined for the full amount for "scratching the car". Will not rent here again.

Beware of Hertz at Manchester Airport!

I rented a car 25th to 30th April, returned it in good time per the rental agreement on Sunday 30th and took my flight home to Switzerland that same afternoon. 

I was later charged £84 for "late return of the vehicle", with Hertz claiming I had returned the car two days late on Tuesday 2nd May - at which time I was sat at my desk at work in Zürich! 

I later noticed that the Hertz employee did not sign or date the Vehicle Condition Report. 

At no time did Hertz inform me they were deducting this charge from my credit card. I noticed it later when checking my statement.

My advice is don't use this company. They may claim to offer "the best deals" but you could end up paying more than you bargained for!

I experienced the exact same rip off-  Rented a car from 10.00am to 3.00pm - drove 30 miles in total , the rest of the time, the car was on a secured car park at Client's company. I handed back the vehicle to a hugely dedicated guy who was obviously attempting to find some sort of damages and told me that there was a chip on the windscreen which was probably around 2 mm. I got charged £100. Funny that I never damaged my windscreen in 25 years of driving but managed to chip their windscreen in 30 miles...My advice, either avoid completely, which is obviously the most sensible option or get a full cover online ( not through Hertz) but absolutely do not rent from Hertz without being fully covered.
