Warning to passengers travelling north. I have just been given a penalty charge because I tapped in with my credit card at this station and travelled to Stevenage only to find out that you can’t tap out in this direction £66 penalty There are no signs at Hertford North to inform passengers of this. update - I did appeal and have been reimbursed for the penalty charge but my one star experience stands!!
We were travelling to London on a day of rail disruptions. 12/08/2023. Noel in the ticket office could not have been more helpful. He ensured we bought the correct tickets and answered our questions with a cheery smile and was so thoughtful. He made our day! Yes Hertford North Station could do with an update but with Noel and his excellent customer service skills you forget about the updates needed to the station. Well done Noel you are a star!
Good building. It has a shop, Ticket Machines and Office, A nearby parking, platform 2 and 3 have step-free access, has toilets but let down by the amount of delays and cancellations.
One of the worst train services I've ever used in my life. I've been here a few times and every time the trains are cancelled or delayed. If you are trying to get to Stevenage you will be better of getting the bus and if you're going to London then get the train from Hertford East.
It's one of the more unusual station buildings, let down by regularly-delayed trains.
