Herrington Country Park

Really nice park for either walking, picnics or just a quick visit. You should bring yourself a packed lunch if you intend to spend any amount of time, as there is only one cafe within the grounds to grab something to eat/drink. The park has many areas to it.... children's play area, a lake, bird feeding areas, picnic areas and many more. I would recommend this park as a nice, relaxing, chill out place to visit. Excellent on a sunny day. Also has the benefit of having the penshaw monument just across the road

Lovely to think that this is what can be made from an old pit. Walk here often with friends early evening and always full of young and old enjoying walking, skateboarding (thankfully in proper area!) cycling and jogging. Full of different birds esp Canada geese which i love. There is a cafe and play area with free parking so what's not to love

Good size if you enjoy a walk, great views, and ample free parking. Lots of different things going on through the summer months. Great for families, plus a basic refreshment cafe. Very nearby is Penshaw tearooms, if you'd prefer something more substantial and up-market

Wonderful place to walk, jog or ride a bike. I go to enjoy the waterfowl and to drop off some bird food. VERY POPULAR during school holidays. Cafe open every day, until 4pm. Good selection of hot and Cold drinks ... Hot and Cold food good too. Disablility friendly and other toilets beside cafe.

Brilliant grounds, lakes full of swans and ducks, many with young. Excellent for walks, with or without dogs , lovely tea room and play area for the little ones. Highly recommended.
