Had afternoon tea here a few days ago and it was top draw. Finger sandwiches were super fresh with various fillings. Lovely warm mini sausage rolls and the best Welsh cakes we've ever tasted. There was plenty of variety with other cakes, which again, were all super fresh. The scones were also delicious and still warm. Plenty of jam and fresh cream to go with them. It was also nice to get pots of tea that made a strong brew which is to our liking. We would definitely return for more of the same, well worth the hour's drive.
Booked for a weekend away, surprise visit to friends. Location is great and close to Barry Sidings Park for a walk and some fresh air. The hotel was hosting a wedding on both nights of our stay but, not a problem, we weren't disturbed by the festivities.nDon't be put off by the tattered flags or the missing letters from the hotel name because the staff are lovely, very helpful and welcoming. Overall the hotel warrants it's 3 star ratingnFor me it was a good stay, some areas of the hotel are tired but I wouldn't hesitate to book again.
Hero to Zero! I'd seriously reconsider this place as a wedding or event venue if you're looking for one... hotels should be judged on what happens when things dont go to plan and how they deal with it - not when they're operating normally.nnNormally, this hotel offers a lot. Reasonable and affordable rooms, a solid event venue at an affordable price-band for just about any kind of function. It's 3 stars and in the middle of Pontypridd, so dont expect the Ritz!nnThe rooms are a little dated and tired but the staff work hard to keep it all running smoothly and feeling like it's punching well above its weight for a small family run hotel.nnWhat makes my review a 1* is the rudeness, bad attitude and abruptness from the owner/manager, Jasjit.nnFor our stay, we booked through a 3rd party hotel finder and they hadn't paid the hotel directly, so we were told we had to pay AGAIN on arrival. We managed to sort this but it took all day, as these things often do...nnDuring this time, he made us feel like this was our problem, like we were trying to pull a fast one, like we could be criminalised and and very much not his problem. He was rude about it and accusational in his tone in the way he dealt with this. He totally ruinned the day! I spent my time talking he was actually being argumentative to him instead of watching my brother and his wife cut their cake!nnThe 3rd party vendor eventually sent the money to the hotel directly with a phone call or two, but it took all day with repeated heated conversations with the hotel manager and the cloud it put over the wedding for us was awful, for other guests and even the bride and groom too. My mother was in tears at one point.nnThe hotel manager continued to be unapologetic and arrogant even after this was resolved. I would have said this venue offers so much - but after this... I really can't warn people enough at the thought of them having a similar experiance to us. Just go elsewhere. It's not worth the drama!
Disgusting room smelt like cigarettes when first walking in, previous customer dropped their mid shower/bath chocolate tea cake treat on the floor for me in the bathroom, so that's nice... Mold in bathroom, stains all over chair and pillow sheets stained also.nnStaff are lovely though, and the food was great in the hotel restraunt which is the only reason for 2 not 1 star. Be careful booking, luckily I was working away for work, so didn't pay. Otherwise I'd be fuming. Can't speak much on location, as working.nnThink twice on booking if room cleanliness is important to you
We went there for a meal and were concerned about poor reviews. Our meal was excellent, wild mushroom starter too much for my wife. I had lamb shank my wife had fish and chips both were excellent as was the service. We live locally and will certainly go back soon.
