About

Hennighan's Top Shop was established in 1982 and has been a running business since. Hennighan's Top Shop is a small corner shop located in Machynlleth Mid Wales.

Story

My parents started Hennighan's Top Shop in June 1982 by converting an old corner shop into a chip shop.
I managed the business until their retirement in 1998, at which point I took over ownership. The shop was completely refurbished throughout, with brand new state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen fittings and our own personal style of decor.
Since this time we have won several awards, business has been excellent and we are now in the UK’S top 10 chip shops.
After 31 years in the job I still have the enthusiasm now that I had when we first started, and I hope that my own children share the same desire.
My wife and I are both heavily involved in the business with Eleanor doing the lunchtime shift and myself the night shift and the preparation in the morning.

This chippy is simply fantastic! We ordered a takeaway, and everything was freshly prepared right in front of us—it was genuinely made to order. The loaded chips were generously topped with cheese.nnWe even had a friendly debate about whether these were the best fish and chips we've ever had or just the second best! Either way, they're outstanding and a must-try after a long hike. Highly recommended.
Having bought a large order for 20 students one evening we were really impressed with the service. All of the meals were named and the food was still nice and hot when we got back to our campsite. We'll definitely go back there again!
As usual an exceptional plate of food was freshly cooked from the friendly and helpful staff. The quality of the fish and chips was very good indeed. The flaky, tasty fish being covered with a thin layer of crispy batter. The chips were equally as good and they were served hot and crisp but fluffy on the inside and totally devoid of the grease that accompanies chips from some fish and chip shops. Such excellent food is sold at competitive prices and provides good value for money. If you’re in the Machynlleth area and are feeling peckish then I’d thoroughly recommend a visit to Hennighan’s.
Probably the best fish and chips in wales, could be the hunger after a longs day walking talking, but definitely the food here is amazing. Nice pies, proper chips, and the haddock was incredibly cooked.
Probably the best dish and chips, I have eaten for a very long time. The fish batter was light and crispy, the cod white and plump and the chips were nice and tasty. We had the meal as a take away, it was still nice & hot when we got back to the caravan. Would definitely recommend and will go there again.
