I came on my own without my mum for the first time. I was 19 years old and it was during covid times so I sort of expected the staff to wear masks makes communication very difficult. The lady I was sent to didn’t remove her mask and find a visor even though I was really struggling, and she proceeded to ask me when I last had new hearing aids fitted. I said around 2018, and she got very annoyed with me and accused me of lying, as the record she had on the computer said it was that year I had new ones 2021. She got very annoyed with me and insisted I had new hearing aids this year, to the point I was crying out of frustration. Then she realised she hadn’t changed the record from the last patient that came to her, which then confirmed I did in fact have my last pair in 2018. I was crying and couldn’t communicate properly with her at all. They dealt with this well and sent me to the child’s hearing lady who removed her mask so I could hear, and confirmed that my current hearing aids would never help me with severe hearing loss, so she booked me in for the day after to get fitted some new ones. I feel like all hearing services staff should be aware of these barriers to communication masks and should accept and apologise if they get something wrong. Despite the problem being sorted very well by the other lady i am very very appreciative, I will still always remember the First Lady and I really hope no one else has to go through what I went through.
Absolutely ridiculous that I've been waiting since may the 18th to get new hearing aids. It's now August the 10th. Had my test and moulds done on may 18th. Just get fobbed off when you call, blaming waiting lists and very limited appointments... Never explained properly. So frustrating and irritating. Rang today and said if not heard anything in another 2 months then ring up again. I'll stop now before I get really angry.
Really disappointed with this service. My mum has been waiting 9 months for her hearing aid when my brother got his in just 7 weeks. His hearing test on the NHS was just 2 months ago, mums was in May 2022!! I can't fault the testing process, the lady was amazing but the service thereafter has been incredibly poor! They told me it would be ready in August 2022 and then in November and then January but each time I find out this news is when I drive to the hospital, park up and go into Hearing Services and speak to someone face to face bacause they refuse to pick up the phone!! I've been in reception and heard it ringing out. The staff don't even acknowledge those waiting at reception which I find dreadfully rude especially as there are lots of older and very frail patients who would not dream of speaking out. I have been so patient but I'm at the end of my tether because yet again I'm calling the number but they refuse to pick up!!!!!! I fear that my 83 year old mum will be dead before her hearing aid is ready!
Very clean and professional, was very understanding with my daughter, and made me and her feel welcome and at ease, only thing is in the child waiting area, they could do with some toys for the little ones.
Got an appointment for stepdad to be seen at home. Rang to confirm and asked if mum could be seen at the same time. It doesn't work like that. I thought it would save time and money for the NHS doing it on one visit and also time off work for me but that's too much to comprehend for them! Given short answers rather rudely. Then they wonder why waiting lists are so long and the NHS budget is so high!!!
I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to Deeps Kara. I was fortunate enough to be issued with a pair of Oticon Engage hearing aids but realised that I was not getting the full benefits from them until they were set up by Deeps Kara. Her time, patience and overall expertise have made all the difference to my hearing.
Just returned from an appointment for my mother, Imaan was lovely, very clear, thorough and polite. She was extremely helpful and saw us on time but didn't rush us either, thank you to Imaan and the wonderful team at Leicester Royal Infirmary who have always done an amazing job at looking after me and my family during some very traumatic times.
I was referred nearly a year ago, after nearly 6 months had audio tests that indicated I needed hearing aids. Was put on list for aids and told it could be 4 months still not heard anything and it’s 6 months. The service is appalling if we didn’t have Hearing Services we would be allowed to use SpecSavers hearing services and they do everything in about 3 weeks!!!
We came last night with an emergency with an obstruction within the inner ear was infected and painful- they saw us immediately and Tom managed to remove it successfully…cannot thank the team enough for being so obliging caring and professional. Well done Tom and Sarah
I visited the LRI hearing services to have my aid repaired. I was asked to take a seat, ten minutes later my hearing aid was returned, fully repaired. Brilliant service, a big thank you to all. Peter Brailsford
