About

The Harp Bar

Live music EVERY night

Story

The Harp Bar, situated alongside its big brother the hugely famous Duke of York, is a pub like no other. Firstly, it is a proper public house for the mature drinker selling crisps, dulse, coffees, independent draught beers and extensive whiskies and at all times “Belfast Craic” with a huge heart. Secondly, it is a live music venue on two floors hosting home-grown talent from the likes of Van Morrison etc. Both of these factors attempt to recreate the once famous “atmosphere” synonymous with its predecessor the 1970’s Harp Bar. The Harp, incorporating the Dunvilles & Swinging Diddy Lounges is decorated in plush red velvet fabrics and adorned with antique furnishings resonant with Victorian Belfast. Walls and cabinets feature rare Belfast whiskey – branded mirrors and memorabilia inspired by the buildings origins as a bonded warehouse - the headquarters of The Old Bushmills Distillery Company. Pride of place is given to a large Victorian Cash Desk which was rescued from the St James Gate Brewery in Dublin. Just call in and you will enjoy a huge welcome from a proper pub with a huge “Belfast Spirit.”

For it being a Wednesday just after New Year this place was amazing and the atmosphere was buzzing. We arrived around 9:30 p.m. to get a seat and table. The bar did fill up fast from 10 p.m. The solo artist on at the time was highly entertaining. The guy even played past the time he was asked to as he was having a great time himself! The second band on were amazing too. Me and my partner felt lucky to be here on our first night in Belfast. It was a great way to start our trip! The bar itself is a great traditional Irish bar with lots of interesting visuals on the walls.

We visited this place on an idle Monday night while on business in Belfast. To our surprise the place was alive. The tradition irish music was fabulous. A good mixture of young and old people were rocking the place. And I mean rocking !!! Everyone was in great form and for a Monday night. I'd say a weekend night must be crazy in this place 😂😂 it's definitely a 5 stars from me.

Always a lively and busy place no matter what day of the week. Modern as its less than ten years old but it's location and sense of capturing a traditional type bar is super. Live music is often on and the staff are usually great too. Of you have people visiting then take them here for a few.
