Went for lunch with family. One of which is a rather famous chef. So I had a great time eating and being able to have knowledge of the amazing and complex flavors that just kept coming. 5 stars on the food. Oh and definitely choose the cheese board. The staff could not be more professional and deserve a tip/praise. The building and location sell themselves.
Beautiful hotel overlooking Rutland Water. We were looked after so well absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Attention to detail is awesome and every member of staff was polite, friendly and delighted to try and make your stay a most memorable one. This was our first visit with friends who have been many times it will most definitely not be our last. If you want to feel special Hambleton Hall is the place to stay. 10 out of 10.
Absolutely stunning, chauffeured here on many occasions in our Mercedes and Rolls Royce’s. Always great feedback from clients of how they have had a perfect day. Never personally eaten here but planning to do so in the very near future.
Just had a party of 10 to Hambleton for a 60th Birthday. Hambleton is a special place. A combination of the place, the view, the staff creates a relaxed, calming atmosphere where you are free to enjoy yourselves. The staff are attentive without being intrusive and the food is just fantastic. We had a special day. Some interesting things on the wine list. we had the white Crozes Hermitage which was great for a light lunch
Excellent hotel and restaurant. Would definitely stay again! Hotel service was particularly great. And very pet-friendly for our cats.Rooms: 5/5
Absolutely incredible meal and experience, however have to drop a star after they unbelievably stopped offering the taster menu. Probably the worst management decision in the history of food!!! Please bring back the taster menu guys
Boring and unmotivated Michelin restaurant. I made a 3-hour train ride to come to this 1-Michelin restaurant because it is tucked in a rustic, Bridgerton-vibe hotel, on an islet and there's no public transport from the nearest train station in Oakham. You'll see a picturesque village sat in a taxi going to the hotel. You'll appreciate the peace and quiet because you only hear the rustle of the flames eating away the logs in all their fireplaces. Instead of lounging in the drawing room, I went straight to the bar and had a glass of champagne. From there I was handed the menu. The restaurant is currently running a "Lunch for Even Less" program with a few other restaurants tied up for at about 50-60% off of full price. However, I didn't go for it as I wanted to really try their signature menu including the add-ons on their gourmet corner. The male receptionist/front-of-house absent-mindedly took my order and did not include the caviar and buckwheat for starters and proceeded to just ask away for the first and main courses. They don't have a tasting menu so it was a very short lunch service. I had the most charmless canapés to start, the flavours or the lack thereof were forgettable. Then I was ushered to my table. A beautiful dining area awaited with a scenic view of the garden by the window but I did really hope I occupied the one nearest to the window since I'm the only one in a table for 1; and the chair I was sat at was facing all the other customers instead of having just the window view to myself - a silly seatplan. The butter block was unnecessarily sprinkled with salt and seaweed dust. Alas, there was no caviar/buckwheat as I started with foie gras at the table. Perhaps they could make the pate a little richer and more buttery or swap the sourdough bread. As for the beef fillet, I couldn't savour or identify any character to it. Medium rare, yes and it's butter-knife soft, but I'm struggling on the flavour they're trying to convey. Perhaps the dessert as a saving grace? Well, you can't really lose with desserts. A delicious little treat of pears with hazelnut, dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream. And finally, I was ready to pay and this is what irks me; no petit fours? The final dance to a gourmet performance? Apparently, you have to have a hot drink to go with it and the staff never mentioned, or even offered. Lo and behold, everyone at the drawing room coming out from the dining area had their munchies on the petit fours. Last time I checked, they are complimentary, amuse bouche to open, petit fours to close. As for a background check, the Michelin award was not really earned by the current chef who seems to be basically just keeping the recognition afloat. There's no oomph to his creation, or perhaps this is an heirloom recipe from the previous chef that needs a bit of updating. Last thing, the definite cherry, a chip on the glass rim when I ordered for rhubarb champagne from the bar after I hurriedly sipped one or two just to calm my nerves. Returned it obviously as this is a health and safety issue, but as I mentioned, the staff are a little absent-minded that no one bothered to check on it. Not the most enticing experience, and this is Michelin-recognised. Time to knock off that one sad, lonely star? Noteworthy details: I don't think this is a Michelin restaurant. It is a fine dining restaurant but not Michelin.
Took my wife for her birthday lunch. Absolutely fabulous food in a stunning setting. Will go back anytimeService: 5/5
Beautiful, historic hotel. Private dinner was fantastic. Nice areas to stroll around by the lake.Rooms: 5/5
This is an oasis of tranquility. Overlooking Rutland Water, the hotel is elegant, the service immaculate and the food sublime. My reduction of one star was only because my room overlooked the kitchens. I am also rather concerned that my room name appears to have an extremely unfortunate translation in Spanish but I stand to be corrected!
