Fantastic historic hotel in a beautiful East Lothian location. Very nice menu and wine list served by helpful and knowledgeable staff. All dishes superbly cooked, presented and served. The lovely large bed rooms are full of antique furniture and are very comfortable. The garden bedrooms were really relaxing, well equipped and had lots of interesting reading material. You certainly feel like a highly valued guest here.

We have been going to the Gray Walls for many years to celebrate family birthdays, etc and every single visit has been exceptional. However, yesterday was my 50th birthday and as usual, we were off to the Gray Walls for dinner! The welcome was very sincere when they welcomed us back and as always the service was exceptional. I would have chosen almost anything from the menu but chose the scallops and the fillet steak and souffle for desert. This is the first meal I have ever asked to congratulate the chef directly. He was a very modest young man (William) who knows how to serve fine dining. How the Grey Walls does not have a Michelin Star I do not know! Then to my surprise the manger informed me that my taxi was cancelled and we were staying the night. A fantastic surprise from my wife. Our room, not surprisingly, (16) was beautiful. So comfortable and luxurious. The en-suite looked very new and the most powerful shower you could wish for. Will I be back - the sooner the better. The building with the beautiful gardens, the best possible service and the best ever meal that one could ask for - five star plus and more.
