The service just became worst and worst in the last two years. Before we were able to get an appointment straight away now even if we phone saying we are in pain and we phone during the appointments booking time they still say someone will phone us back to decide if we need an appointment or not totally a waste of time and very poor customer service… plus their telephone system had problems for months and months a GP practice they receive so much funds from the government you would expect something like that to be fixed in one week, well took them over a year and them we patients weren't able many times to phone and we weren’t allowed just to come in…as I said very poor customer service
Getting worse now. Call 8.30, by the time you get through, all appointments gone. Try again at 1230, same thing. My previous GP had online booking where you can book like week or 2 in advanced instead of trying on the day and never get through. Most of the time you ring the surgery and seems like they pick up the call and hang up straight away. Not good at all. Had to use walk in centres most of the times instead of relying on this surgery.
If you can get through the phone system, it is a good clinic with good doctors. However, the level of service they provide is simply insufficient for the need. You need to call them at 8 am sharp to be number 17 in the line and wait for at least half an hour on the phone, and they may already be out of appointments. Try to do that with a sick child, on the way to drop the other one to school before trying to work from home, the whole time being worried. They seem to have prepared their system for the ideal patient who doesn't have any other responsibilities, pain or serious concerns. Try calling Gosforth Memorial, and who knows today you may be the lucky one. And if you need to call them again because no pharmacies seem to keep stock of basic medicine these days - another ridiculous tragedy of a system - , and you need to ask if a different medicine can be prescribed etc, just forget about it. You will wait for 20 minutes for them to finally hang up. Prepare for calling 111, for an hour of waiting on the line..
Whats wrong with GMMC these days? Completely down hill. Used to get through to reception for an apt within a few minutes, now it averages 42 minutes to get through. And today it took 79 minutes and 12 seconds to get answered. Started number 7 in the queue. How are we supposed to get seen to if ill?? "Staff absences"?? So, employ more staff !! This is completely unacceptable and service is NOT what we would expect in Gosforth. It's embarrassing and feels like the health funds are being squandered by owners instead of spent on providing a service.
I have had multiple bad experiences with the practice, I understand the huge strain on the service however have had much better experiences at similar GP services elsewhere. If you are someone that needs to be in contact frequently with you GP i recommend you go elsewhere. The phone lines don't work, there is no proper system that puts you on hold instead it just cuts you off and there is no clear booking system. Doctors and staff provide different information to the same question and have lost paper work and information on a couple of occasions. It seems management need to put in place a better system for their staff so that everyone works to the same terms/standards. Again I understand the huge strain on the service but in the fight against privatisation services like this are not putting up a fight like i've seen elsewhere.
An absolutely professional, well managed centre with really lovely, caring and very helpful staff giving an outstanding service....thank you Simon Penaluna
It is very hard to reach this clinic with the calls getting disconnected repeatedly. Also, the junior doctors GP registrars dont seem to know much as they prescribe things off Google !! and talk more like therapists than physicians. I had had two incidents where they've prescribed common meds off the internet without taking any actual history or trying to understand the problem. And it's the junior doctors you get assigned to if during triage held over the call with the receptionist, it is decided that you have nothing serious. Go figure!
Phone lines never work and on the rare occasion they do the receptionists are so rude it is truly bizarre they chose to work in the medical care profession.
I have been a patient with this practise since I was young. 9 times out of 10 I get to see the GP I want. Dr. P Taylor has always been very supportive to me especially over the last few years where I have attended the surgery more times in the last 2 years then I have in my while life time and he treats me with respect and actively includes me in care planning. Dr. ED Jones is also a great GP, you can tell he always reads through recent contacts before you come into the room and is very good .
Great practice. I haven't had a problem getting appointments and their online appointment booking system is really easy to use too. The receptionists and nursing staff are really friendly and helpful, and the doctors always go the extra mile. I am very happy indeed with the service offered. I've been a patient there since 1979.
