Gosforth, a Wyevale Garden Centre

About

Welcome to our page. We are a part of Wyevale Garden Centres, bringing joy and inspiration to everyone's garden.

Story

Gosforth Garden Centre has undergone a radical transformation recently; plants and gardening have been firmly reinstated at the heart of the business, the centre itself has been much improved and its local credentials have been greatly reinforced by being renamed Gosforth Garden Centre.

Located just north of Newcastle city centre, Gosforth is now Newcastle’s largest and best garden centre. Easily accessible from the A1 and A19, it lies on the edge of Gosforth Park next to Newcastle racecourse. The centre started life as a nursery, was officially opened as a garden centre by David Bellamy in 1982, was - remarkably - only connected to mains electricity in 1985 and less than 2 years later won the prestigious Horticulture Week’s ‘National Garden Centre of the Year’.

Impeccable horticultural standards and highly knowledgeable staff passionate about gardening are the key ingredients at Gosforth. Customers are warmly welcomed, the vast range of growing stock is of the highest quality and ‘every gardening accessory imaginable’ (according to one customer) is available in beautifully laid out and clearly labelled displays.

Whilst the core business is related to gardening and gardening products, these are complemented by an excellent range of giftware and cards, an extensive aquatics department and a fabulous restaurant serving anything from a cup of tea to a delicious 3 course feast. Come wintertime, the Christmas displays here are nothing short of inspirational and, justifiably famous, draw admirers from many miles away!

Good selection of plants - indoor and outdoor. We got a fair few indoor plants. The pots are quite pricey, especially for larger ones. The cafe is nice and the staff are friendly. There's even a little soft play.
Great garden centre-the Christmas display at the front door is beautiful! The food was lovely and the staff were all pleasant despite been rushed off their feet. Will visit again :
Visited the Cafe and there was a huge queue with very few staff actually doing anything. There were numerous tables that were left with dirty dishes on etc and for the 30 mins I there was there, none were cleared. Dreadful experience for what was quite expensive food. More staff are needed here and if management do not see that, then they should question their ability to run an establishment such as this.
Took two granddaughters to see Santa today. The girls liked the set-up. Lots of realistic animals in the walk thru. They enjoyed seeing the elves and Santa. And they received a present each, the SAME jigsaw. Surely, it could have been two different jigsaws. £12 each for the visit. Update: the jigsaws were a geometric design, not suitable for children, even difficult for adults. Contacted Dobbies and they refunded the cost. Well done Dobbies.
The garden section was good and well priced but the indoor items were very expensive. There is a well stocked aquarium section, and a pond with huge fish that can be fed. The Christmas displays were fun and imaginative. There was even a camel outside with the Christmas trees. My grandson saw father Christmas and received a good quality puzzle as a present. The restaurant was good. I had fish and chips, hot and freshly cooked. The Christmas dinner, my granddaughter ordered, didn't look very nice. The carrots were burnt black on one side and it all looked over cooked. She left most of it. I saw other dishes being served and they looked very well presented and appetising. The centre is dog friendly and there is a good amount of parking.
Very disappointing. Went as a family with children, a baby and two dogs. On first entering it seen like a lovely selection including a sparkly Christmas section the baby loved. The baby then needed feeding so I needed to sit down. The restaurant dosent allow dogs and the three dog friendly tables were in an use. The staff suggested I could sit outside in the cold and rain with my small baby! After waiting we then got a table in the dog section. as the people next to us left no one came to clear / clean tables. Food came to the other table in this section and all the dirty things were ignored and left. We got soft drinks after a 25 minute queue with one till taking payments. Lovely selection of items on sale poorly let down by rude and unfriendly staff. We won't be back
Went with children to the to the Santa's grotto and it was really great experience for us all, picked up some Christmas tree lights half price and looked at the aquarium, great place. However my mother almost fell in the car park on ice, it was also very dark. Some extra lights and salting would be appreciated
Cafe seemed short staffed, trays were not clean and had to look hard to find cleared table. Coffee and scone were nice but had to hunt for tongs to pick scones from trays. Good assortment of scones but people were just using hands to choose which one they wanted. Usually much better there but put it down to lack of staff.
Today I visited with my 18month old grandson. He loves to see water features.I asked an assistant where they were and he directed us to them but sadly they were turned off. The person followed us over and and asked us if there was anything we were particularly interested in. I confessed that it was for our grandson to see them really. The assistant kindly turned them on for him.MY grandson was delighted with the display and I can't thank the person enough, a credit to your establishment. Little actions make such a difference to your customer appreciation .Thankyou
Dobbies at Gosforth have definitely improved the food in the restaurant the past few months. Just had lovely Jacket potato with beans and cheese. The accompanying salad was a great improvement on the usual limp bit of lettuce and cucumber. Nicely presented too. Shame the wait for hot drinks is always so long but I suppose that's the price we pay for wanting 'proper' coffee.
