I frequented this establishment often when I lived nearby. Great fried food of all kinds. Service is always prompt and pleasant. Chips are exceptional. I had the scampi supper for the first time last week on a whim and I wasn't disappointed. It has won awards for a good reason. Parking: If you go around 5-6 pm, the traffic can make finding a space dreadful.
Just had one of the worst meals I’ve ever had from here. 19 pound for 2 meals and the batter on the fish and chicken was barely cooked and took up about 50% of the size of each strip. I was the only person there too so you would expect everything to be cooked well to order. Won’t be back
Don't know what has happened to The Golden Chip but just had our last visit. Chips were more like scallops, very dry, tasteless and all stuck together. Fish was cooked within an inch of incerneration. Very disappointing
Stay away on a Saturday night..the fish was nice but wasn't worth the hassle The big girl with the big attitude served my wife and me..After driving 20 minutes ther I was so disappointed at such a nice chippy to have someone like that to represent the golden chippy..sad to say I won't be back
I was really disappointed in the Golden Chip. My chips were like mashed potato and I didn't like the flavour. My chicken burger batter was very thick and totally raw inside, like a mushy paste. I'm sad to say I won't be back as I remember they used to be the best chippy about for years.
Variety box has climbed 30% in price over the last year or two, and has also shrunk in size. Barely any fish in the batter this time, just a slither in the middle, a sausage, a bit of chicken and barely a couple of chips Poor value for money for what you used to get.

Had a chicken burger bap crumbled apart need to change bap suppliers to much batter on chicken. Once apon a time best chicken burgers in town. Disappointed.
Haven't been for some time standards seem to have dropped. Got reheated burnt scampi and stogy onion rings....awful
The food is good and service is good too.It can be very busy at times
