Gillygate Fisheries

I don't know what's happened to this place. The staff are lovely and I really wanted to give it 5 stars yet for the past year all the food is substandard. Chips taste like they've been warmed up from earlier on in the day, in the chips there weren't many edible for my child as they were sharp and bent. Look i know it's not always possible to give everyone chunky chips but please a little bit more quality wouldn't go amiss or perhaps I've just been unlucky. The fish I stopped buying, such a shame as the batter that's cooked(it's often soggy underneath) is gorgeous. I remember when it was the best in Pontefract ....sadly not anymore. The staff(all of them) are the loveliest of ppl...i feel for them having to give customers the food they do. We've now gone to another chippy where we get hot gorgeous food. Such a shame. Partner went to chippy earlier for a quick bite and brought back sausages, scallops and fish. 2 are being sick as I write this. Were perfectly fine prior to this. Be careful pls...the fish had a lemony taste to it and the scallops were full of grease. It was only after I asked where they were from that I wasn't particularly surprised!

Really good fish and chips. Great portion sizes.

Not impressed with the fish and chips.. the fish must have been stood there all evening as the batter was so hard i couldnt put my folk through. The fish its self would have been lovely when first cooked and the quality and thickness looked as though it was decent but so dry you couldnt eat it. The peas were really dark in colour and cold but tasted nice and the chips were scraty and tough. Very disapointing when id read the reviews. Just moved to the area and wont use them again...took a picture which i cant seem to post ....

Nice fish and chip shop with great portions! Also do kebabs and other things. I believe they deliver now too.

Top chippy and good staff to have banter with the owner is a top bloke aswell
