Upon moving in, we were greeted by what seemed like a sleek modern flat. Little did we know, it was infested with bedbugs. They managed to remain hidden until a few days into our tenancy, as their bites don't always show up immediately. Once discovered crawling out of our mattresses we were told we had to move flats and wash our belongings immediately. Within this process, I had to miss a day of work which I lost pay and we even had to throw somethings away out of fear they may bring them to the new flat. Although, some credit was provided to wash belongings in the complex we were never reimbursed for our losses and upon discussion it was suggested that we could have brought them. Furthermore, cockroaches and silverfish are regular inhabitants within the building and our flat. Wouldn't recommend given mine and my flatmates experience as there is much nicer accommodation at a similar price range within Sheffield.
Bedroom and bathrooms are spacious and modern. However, when you move in it’s likely that the room will have a lot of stains on the walls/ carpet but they tend to redecorate the room after a few months. The decorators usually stay for a week but usually spend only a few hours in each room. The cleaners do a poor job of cleaning your room before your arrival. From toenails on the floor to thick clumps of hair in the shower drain. The maintenance team were always helpful and very efficient. maintenance issues would be solved within a few days Gatecrasher has a major problem with silverfish on every floor and block- I would find these daily, despite the bug repellent provided by the staff. Another problem is complete lack of ventilation in the kitchens due to the kitchen windows barely opening - this means that even with an extractor running when cooking your clothes will STINK. It can get noisy due to people playing music but this is to be expected- the walls are very thin, to the point that conversations can be heard. It’s easy to get parcels delivered here, however the entrance gates are often left open and parcels are susceptible to being stolen. The gym is basic, but that is expected. The games room and study area and in the same area, which makes the study room almost pointless as people often make lots of noise in the area. All of the equipment in the games room is damaged and in disrepair.
Lived there last year, the accommodation was infested by cockroaches and silverfish the whole time, it was disgusting to sleep there. Feels like nobody really cares about you either. Living there was a nightmare, I was counting the days to get out of there. Worst experience I've ever had with any accommodation.
If you love cockroaches and silverfish, and want a fear of them for life, with every itch you feel a few months after moving in to feel like a cockroach crawling on you, please move into Gatecrashers
The studios are very modern but the lack of shelving, a bedside table or a hoover makes things a bit awkward. There is also no desk draw so nowhere to store craft items or uni papers. As mentioned by other reviewers there are roaches and silverfish. Fortunately I have only encountered one deceased silverfish upon arrival, but the roaches are a huge problem. I have lemon scented dehumidifiers everywhere and a lemon air freshener in the bathroom since that’s the place I most often spot them. This helped a lot more than pest control coming in to replace the roach traps. I see maybe one or two per week now, but really I shouldn’t be seeing any at all. It’s a shame because this place has some huge pros that other places are lacking. Cons aside, this place has some great features that will make your stay a bit less hellish than the average student accommodation. I can sleep really well here. It’s quiet at night. This is a huge benefit for those with sensory problems and people who need to be up early! The wardrobe is huge and has plenty of space for your clothes, shoes and bags. There are three chairs in the room so if you have guests everyone can be comfortable. The bathroom is modern with a huge shower space so you don’t feel crammed in and there’s also a heated towel rail. The smart tv is also a huge bonus since you can get netflix and youtube without hassle. The oven and hob work really well so you’re not waiting hours for your food to cook or having the possibility of things still being raw. Outside of the flat itself there is a good laundrette that takes contactless payments and it is only £1 for a dryer cycle. This is cheaper than the popular alternative used by the majority of student accommodations and is easier to use. The final pro of this accommodation is the location. There is a less than 30 minute walk to the majority of popular areas. This includes both campuses, the moor, aldi, the train station and tram stops which can take you to meadowhall shopping centre or even rotherham. Overall this is a fantastic accommodation, but the roaches are a huge letdown. EDIT: had to knock off a star because on two occasions staff have been extremely rude towards me. I made a small request and received a very prompt, brief, and rude response dismissing my struggles as a disabled student.

This place is trash. Not only will you be forced to wake up during the night and early morning due to loud noises, the accomodation and people in charge could not care less. You will never see your deposit back regarless of how immaculate your rooms are. Also, the internet is nowhere near 100Mbps like they promised. Fastest I got in my apartment was 37Mbps. There is no privacy in any of the rooms, whichever flat you get you will never be able to open your curtains as everyone can look inside. The gym machines NEVER work. The accomodation does not accept parcels so, unless you are home and ready to come outside to collect them forget getting them. They just do not care about you. Signing that contract will be the biggest regret of your life.
Lived at Gatecrasher for 2 years on floors 6 and 5. 2018-2020 Pros: Helpful staff, will sort out any problems you have with the room at the start of the rent period. Close to university, longest part of the commute is waiting for the lift. Communal areas cleaned regularly. Nice facilities. Cons: Flawed building design, 5th and 6th floors are a greenhouse and unbearable during summer months even with the window open/curtain closed with no air conditioning. ask for a lower floor Management hesitant to spend money on lifts - the lift in Vivo was regularly malfunctioning over my 2 year stay, even after being fixed by an "engineer", meaning regular walks up 7 flights of stairs.
Cockroaches everywhere! Roaches have been there for years now. No aircon gets way too hot. Gym machines never fixed
Infested with cockroaches that will FLY at you - Avoid Staff act like you’re dirt under their shoes. Would not recommend, save your money
