Wow. We popped in late for a quick dinner and was excellent. Despite being the only people in the back room, the service was excellent. Our waitress was polite, friendly and attentive, we never felt ignored or forgotten. The food was also excellent. We both had the signature burger and could not fault it. Fantastic big patty, cooked perfectly. Lovely additional fillings and brioche bun. The truffle chips were also delicious. It was a huge plate of food and excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend it.
I visited as a restaurant and not as a hotel, so this review is about the pub/restaurant and not about the hotel aspect. The restaurant was very welcoming and the staff were brilliant. The antiquity of the building, with small, cosy rooms made for a great atmosphere and service was quick and efficient, and always with a smile. The food, too, was excellent and some of the best available at a reasonable price, in my opinion. Unfortunately, due to the antiquity of the building, there are steps to enter the building, and it is a maze of small corridors, quite dark, some with almost hidden steps - easy to miss for people with visual impairment. And the narrowness of the corridors, steps, and multiple levels would make this venue less easy for someone in a wheelchair. Food & drinks: See my main review
This hotel was such a charming little spot, perfect for a night in York. Our room had a great view of the gate and wall right next door, the restaurant downstairs had great service and delicious food and drink! Staff were very accommodating as well, we even had our suitcases carried up all the way upstairs by a very friendly and strong employee : 10/10 experience!
We had a roast here yesterday, and it was absolutely fantastic! Onion soup to start was so creamy and tasty, and roast was equally as good! Took a little while to arrive, but staff were so helpful and friendly! Would totally recommend if you're in the area and looking for a good Sunday lunch!Service: 5/5
Had a great one night stay here. We could see the medieval wall right outside our window. Plenty of outdoor seating for meals and drinks. One of the coolest places I've ever stayed.Rooms: 5/5
Highly recommended, really delicious food.Large hidden paved beer garden out the back , adjacent to the Roman wall. You can see the top of the minster from there too. I had asparagus risotto.Location: 5/5
The location was excellent, right inside a gate in the city's wall. The team members on both the pub side and the lodging side were very accomadating and courteous. Excellent supper, breakfast and beers on tap. Will definitely revisit for dining and lodgings. Walkability: Close enough to train station and other tourist and historicak sights to enjiy a brisk walk. Food & drinks: Had the rump steak for supper, the full English breakfast the next morning and also enjoyed the cask ales.
Fantastic location and atmosphere. After looking around the secret garden that was packed, not one person was on their phone and actually having a conversation! Very rare! We will be back it's awesome here love this place xRooms: 3/5
Didn't stay, only had dinner... but it was wonderful. Best ravioli ever. Great atmosphere, very drinkable wine and beer. Friendly staff, good value for the quality involved
This hotel took my money of £180, i had to cancel as my father was taken seriously ill. I cancelled within the time frame allowed, my email dated and timed, i also rang the hotel directly who refused to cancel the room booking as i had booked it via Algotels. They said there was nothing the hotel could do even though they own the place!! So they took my money, no doubt The Fat Badger is getting seriously fat with robbing people of their hard earned cash. I am currently investigating how i go through the small claims court to get my money back. PS; My father passed away 3 days later. And you still owe me £180. I don't care who i booked with, the money came to you Fat Badger and you should be honourable and return it!!
