About

Established in 1936 and housed in the former White Horse Inn on Castle Hill, the Museum of Cambridge is the place to explore the life, times stories and heritage of the people of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire

Story

Welcome to The Museum of Cambridge! Come along to discover and celebrate the diverse stories of Cambridge, its surroundings and its people in your friendly local and social history museum.

Housed in the former White Horse Inn, the Museum was set up in 1936 by leading members of the town and university with the aim of interesting “the ordinary citizen in aspects of local social life which were fast disappearing in Cambridgeshire”, an ethos which we still hold to today.

Experience the wonderful and varied collections of domestic and work life in nine warm room settings. Revisit the toys from your childhood and the folklore of the area. Enjoy the exhibitions and family friendly events throughout the year that bring the displays to life.

I only went because my wife wanted to. But I was pleasantly surprised how interesting and varied it was . Quite small so it's not overwhelming. I would like to borrow their mechanical apple corer. Combine with this Museum with a visit to the adjacent Kettles Yard
Fine collection of historical artifacts and trivial. It could've been a lot bigger. It felt a lot more like someone's private collection than a musium.
Very small and not worth £6 to get in. It's full of old stuff but theres nothing of any real interest. It's just rooms full of things, theres no connection to cambridge, you can see items like these in any museum or even in some pubs !! My advice is spend your £6 somewhere else.
Small museum in a historical house. Loved the Twilight night candle making activity. The staff is very dedicated and caring.
Pretty small and expensive for what it is, just a house but some interesting facts. You get a ticket which allows you to return however you'll be able to see everything in one visit in no time.
