The food and service was very good. This is a very nice place for close friends to catch up, special occasions and small private meetings. We loved the desserts and drinks that topped us off.
Just popped in for a bit of lunch. Very welcoming & the Manager was really nice. Our waitress was Leanne & she was very polite & very professional. Now what impressed us the most is the fact that she didn't forget us or anyone in her area. She is the reason I'm giving a 5 star review. we always get forgotten when we eat out & its pretty rare we get someone who looks after us all the way through without me having to wave for attention but Leanne was spot on! Food was great aswell
I was looking forward to my first visit to The Oaken Arms with friends, as it’s part of a the vintage inn chain I had high high hopes. Sadly, my experience didn’t live up to my expectations. We were off to a good start as my party we’re running slightly behind our original booking and the pub were absolutely fine with it and we’re quite understanding over the phone. However, when we did get to the pub, even though we were 15 minutes later than our original booking we were still hanging around waiting for our table. The restaurant was not particularly busy as several tables left shortly after we arrived. The restaurant is lovely, proper country pub vibe and is set in a lovely location. Once, We were sat at our table, the waitress took our drinks order and went away. It seemed to take forever for the waitress to come back to take our starters and mains orders. When she reappeared we were notified the following was unavailable: - The chicken and mushroom pie, - lasagne - all the steaks What was quite disappointing is quite a few of the table had choose this before we were told they were unavailable. Once ordered, it took around 40 minutes for our starters to hit the table. I ordered the pate which was nice however the portion was barely enough to go with the sour dough baguette. It seemed to be plonked on the plate with no desire for it to look appetising. I was disappointed as I have this starter regular at most vintage inns I visit and this fell completely short. Whilst we were waiting for our main course, the supervisor came over to tell us one of the four of us who ordered the burger for main could no longer have our mail as we had ran out. He made the suggestion that he would take one of the patty’s off the double burger and put it on the single burger order. There was a lot of talk regarding this and in the end the burger was substituted for pizza. The supervisor had an attempt at rescuing what was going down hill rapidly by giving the individual a glass of wine on the house. For my main meal, I had a house burger. It was okay, it wasn’t fantastic but It wasn’t rubbish Either. My halloumi that I had paid extra for and Was an extra topping added lots of extra flavour to the burger and saved it! We had finished eating and a waiter came to say if we wanted anymore drinks or desserts that the kitchen and bar would be closing at 10pm. It felt like they were trying to say it’s time for you to go as at this point we had not had any pudding orders or prior warning to the closing time. It felt like the staff wanted us to leave as it Was time for them to put their feet up and it was only our table left in the restaurant. The food is very average and did not meet my expectations considering the price. You get what you pay for!! The service is really not very good, staff seemed more interested in setting empty tables than serving the customers who were already there. I get people are new staff and everyone was a learner once but Even the experienced staff don’t want to seem to help new staff. Staff are very rude and self centred and are happy to talk above themselves, then tell you to leave once they have your money! I would return, but only if I discount vouchers or there was a cheap deal on menus. It’s not the place I would take friends or family who have high expectations as they would be thoroughly Disappointed mainly with the lack of service and lack of food! Unfortunately I can only rate 4/10. Very disappointing
My first visit and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely cool pint of Aspall cider followed by a delicious sticky toffee pudding. Friendly, helpful staff too!
Tried this pub on our drive out , was cold in there might be as we was sat by window , wine glasses on table was dirty , and knife and fork still had food on them told waitress and she said Do you want me to change them ?? We ordered starter which was nice and we had hunters chicken which the one meal was the worst ever the chicken was like rubber we told waitress as you could see on plate it couldn't be eaten she said she will tell chef but they did knock the price of 2 drinks off the bill , don't think we will return again
Our first visit but definitely not our last. Friendly and welcoming staff and great food!
A party of 12 of us ate here recently. We pre ordered our meals and paid a deposit of £50. Good food and drink in a cosy setting which, even though the pub seats a lot of diners the layout makes the setting quite private which was nice. The staff were very attentive. I hadn't been here for some years due to a bad meal and service but Im happy to say it was a lot better this time and will be visiting again. There is plenty of parking & free wifi.
I love the Oaken, it’s such a little gem & right on my doorstep! Firstly the staff are so lovely, welcoming, chatty & always have smiles on their faces. Secondly the food is delicious, really well put together menu & always tastes amazing! & thirdly the ambience is so nice! The place is warm, pretty & cozy. Especially with all the fires lit now! Really love this little pub it’s wonderful & deserves the recognition.
We’ve been here for lunch a few times and have always had a enjoyable experience. This Saturday it was a special occasion. We were celebrating my sisters continued good progress with her cancer treatment. We had a warm welcome and there was a lovely atmosphere. It’s a great menu and we decided to go for broke, and have three courses. The prawns and scallops were sublime. The mains of lasagna and sea bass were fabulous. We also had 2 bottles of wonderful Argentine Melbac. don’t worry we did have a unlucky nominated driver. Now on to the puddings, if you like chocolate The Black Forest Flowerpot is a must! What really made it special was the marvellous staff. They were attentive, friendly, and had a great sense of humour. The evening flew by too fast. Needless to say my sister and her husband were well impressed. I wonderful experience all round. High Recommend
Really warm welcome, friendly staff, food was very pleasing to the eye and piping hot. Asked for somewhere warm to sit and was placed by a window with a nice view and by a radiator which was ideal. A very pretty fresh flower was in a small vase on the table , a nice touch to the lovely atmosphere . A really great team of staff
