Outstanding. The focus at Flinty Red is on fresh, seasonal ingredients - often cooked simply, but cooked well. It's modern European food at its best. Expect an impressive wine list and a great knowledge of the wines themselves, as the wine shop down the road Corks of Cotham is owned by the same people. The menu changes pretty much daily, so you'll be able to have a new experience every time you visit. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Bristol.
Cosy setting, friendly service, excellent wine list, but. . . after 15 minutes scrutiny, none of our party of four really fancied anything on the menu. And that says it all really - an eclectic menu which didn't cover the bases. We had 9 different dishes which were all OK but nothing to write home about. This could be a great destination but a lot more work on the menu needed. Verdict of our party: interesting experience but nobody wanted to go back.
I can't say enough good things about FR. It's easily my favourite restaurant outside of London and Bray and in my Top 10 ever. The menu is "European-different"; you'll get dishes you never thought of servedin imaginitive ayet simple ways. We always eat 'tapas sytle' with many smaller plates in order to try more of their offerings in one sitting, and always defer to the clever and perfect wine recommendations of Rachael, Dominic and their staff. We've never been disappointed. Go now but make sure you book! and _do_ try their unbelievable good anchovy toast!
