I have been a client of Fitness First in Baker Street for 17 years. The environment is very spacious and friendly. The classes are very engaging . A special thank you to my personal trainer Dalkeith for his commitment and professionalism ! Barbara x
Great gym - unique combination of wellness sauna, steam room and pool, classes and gym floor. Good equipment, very clean facilities and friendly staff! I would like to highlight Dalkeith, with whom I had a personal training session. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and caring. He did well to take into consideration my specific requirements and needs and he built routines that were energetic, varied and enjoyable. I found the coaching very helpful and encouraging and willing certainly book more sessions with him.
Average gym at best. Really poor customer service. My wife had surgery and couldn’t go the gym for six months. She asked to freeze her membership and has had no response for 5months despite regular chasing. The PTs are pushing salespeople often making you feel uncomfortable. The only positives is the convenient location and friendly reception staff. EDIT POST REPLY: Thank you for your reply on here. I would be grateful if you responded to my wife and she’s been chasing via the email you shared below for several months now and has had no response. What’s the best way for you to reply to customers?
July 2024. Put the preacher curl machine back where it was...there is plenty of space at the sled runway section. Put it back. Still no return of perfectly good preacher curl machine. Bang out of order to remove machine without consultation especially when it's favourite piece of machinery. Not the same as any substitute machine either at all. I am now using the same preacher curl machine at Gymbox. Please return the preacher curl machine and I will change rating to 5 star. This was one of the main reasons why I used to visit this gym and now I have to go back to my pay as you go local gym and Gymbox now to use the various amazing peacher curl machines there. Why would you remove this? In addition you have two of the same shoulder press and lat pull down machines???
What reviews below will tell you about this fitness club. - Poor facilities. - Rude and obnoxious staff. - Poor club management - Dirty sales tactics - the one salesman mentioned below a few times below can’t interact with customers properly, I wasn’t sure if he was a bit dumb or was just being purposely obnoxious for no reason. Wouldn’t recommend this gym or fitness first clubs at all to be honest, they have an odd approach to customer service and from what I can tell a bizarre company culture and it’s definitely not customer first if anything it seems money first with a touch of brokie vibes, I don’t know what the economics are for running gyms in London but they make it seem like it’s not good. Even though this is a premium club be aware it’s only on the surface, things don’t get fixed quickly which I still can’t figure out if is to save money or because they just don’t give a toss - when I asked when a water fountain may be fixed I was told the one maintenance man they move around the country to fix things at FF clubs was too busy fixing things at other clubs, if I was in the mood for a daft story about nothing I would read the daily mail, I just asked when it may be fixed, I think the last time the gym got a deep clean was when it opened, some of the staff are nice, others you will get the feeling are ready to follow you out on the door on the way home for a good old London shanking, the place is grubby although cleaners seem good but too much to clean up, quite a few machines are missing, the pool area is a serious incident waiting to happen and I just can’t believe that area is within building code, if it is wow , the sauna regularly can’t hold temperature, I mean if I wanted to sit in a semi-hot room I’d just turn the heater up at home. Needs to be min 80 deg to take into account people in and out. And finally if you have an issue with the staff or the gym, good luck. Even if they are in the wrong they will 100% still want your money. I got the impression there is no control of staff to protect the image of the club and brand and they can do as they please. I mean customer service is often bad in the UK and expecting the cheerful attitude with a smile of which accustomed to may be a bit much, but a basic level of respect is still required of which I noted on a few occasions of note for myself you will not receive at this club. Oh well I’m going to check out a few other FF clubs to see if any better until my contract ends and will be sure to leave appropriate reviews Update: Attended Tottenham court as couldn’t attend baker street. Apart from usual shortcomings I can say baker street is mis-managed. Tottenham court staff are much better and facilities maintained and repairs quick. Update: They finally cancelled my membership albeit after contract expiry in Aug due to my review which they don’t like and a blunt email response when questioned me. Suits me as was in process of deciding what gym to sign up to next. My primary issue involved expletive from staff member which I must note did not engage with staff member in any capacity before/after or at anytime or any other staff and members at all really as I just do my workout. If I got an apology and cancellation as requested as didn’t think wise to attend the facility if escalation may occur I wouldn’t have given a review. Received neither and they told me I should go to another club at my time and expense travelled further and also paid for higher monthly fee till end of contract than other FF clubs in locality. I can’t understand logic and they can’t either as asked. Seems terrible customer engagement to me. I don’t leave reviews unless really bad as is difference between being lacklustre and just downright nasty. They never reached out to resolve as stated below, they just didn’t expect and maybe didn’t know can update reviews weekly and is annoying them . An eye for an eye.
If you’re looking for a place with a sauna and steam room, look elsewhere. Despite the sauna being a few months old and the steam room having undergone “improvements” this month, both routinely malfunction. Class instructors are great. Spin bikes are low quality.
1 star because is very easy to join but they make it very difficult when you are trying to cancel your membership, after you have completed 12 months contract, apparently there’s still a cancellation fee even though T&C’s mentions 30 days notice only required. There’s no one you can speak directly regarding your membership, the gym will suggest, we need to speak to head office and this can take 10 days, the membership manager at the gym has no idea when it comes to membership matters. it is a very long winded process. I do not recommend this place. I have contacted the membership team on 29th March and this problem is still outgoing. If I get a response, I just get half an answer and not the full picture. I will no rejoin or choose to join fitness first in the future and I do not recommend it for this reason.
Relatively good gym, not enough space for weights section especially during peak hours. Customer service is shambolic, one takes ages and to they aren't congruen. I wanted to cancel my membership as I was moving. I was told that it would cost £250 and then upon cancelling it went to £450. I went to email them and they said the cancellation fee is subject to change based on factors. Another commercial gym charging a premium and not delivering at all. I would look elsewhere tbh I've been a PT for 4 years so have experienced plenty of gyms and this one was the worst
Overall, it has been a very unpleasant experience since I decided to join Fitness First. Their customer service is lacking in all aspects, and responsiveness is an absolute joke from top management to the branches. The continuous interruption of the services for poor maintenance and long periods of repairing completely affects your routines. Be ware of your finances, they take no mercy and will take you countless days and month to get a resolution from them. Overcharged over the months despite the initial agreement and it seems like there is no way out, not even by cancelling your membership. I will suggest to avoid at all costs. Whether baker Street or Jersey, no matter the tier, the service is poor at all levels.
I've just joined this gym for lunchtime swims and resistance machine circuits. Oh boy is the bro culture alive and well. Guys hogging machines. Guys putting towels, phones, whatever to reserve OTHER Machines. Christ people - I'm already sick of begging to bust out 10-20 quick reps and move on. It is allowed to share!! I'm stuck with the membership due to fantastic location vs my office, but I already wish I'd had another option
