We stayed for 2 nights in September 2024. The room is spacious, clean, and neat. The bed and the pillows were comfortable. There's a safe, hairdryer, and a fridge in the room. There's also a pair of dumbbells with some instructions, which we thought was fun and neat! The only annoying thing was the curtains. It want only one pair of curtains as in any hotel room but multiple small windows I think 5 each with a shutter and a blackout curtain. So, every night we had to pull them down one by one. There's no iron in the room, but we asked for one from the reception. The staff were friendly and helpful when we asked them to extend our check out time and to store our luggage for some time. The gym is big and has multiple cardio and strength machines, as well as two sets of dumbbells with various weights. The breakfast is expensive compared to breakfast restaurants nearby. You either pay £26 for the cold buffet cheese platter, cold meats, yogurt, fruits, and cereal see the pics and video or pay £30 to get that + your choice of a hot dish eggs or pancakes. Nearby activities: Close to many shops. Walkability: Many restaurants and coffee shops around.
Great location. Minutes away by walk from London's center Oxford, Regent st. etc... Didn't get a 5 star vibe though...4 stars is more accurate. The building is pretty old. The doors make this horrible squeaky sound and the hallway has a horrible, old and dusty smell. We couldn't breathe from that smell until we entered our room. Luckily that smell was only in the hallway because if it was also in my room I'd switch it a thousand times. They should really do something about that hallway smell. We were on the 1st floor, don't know about the other floors. The bed is pretty small, if u share it with someone u don't have much moving space as you sleep. Plus, I had to request some basic things to be brought to my room as I checked in such as a vanity kit and shower cap, instead of them waiting for me in my room as I arrive. Very nice gym for sport lovers. Other than these maintenance issues, Sanderson is a really nice hotel. Kind staff, great location. Big, spacious and well designed rooms though the room looked better online , but I wouldn't rate it as 5 stars.
The review is for afternoon tea only, we haven't stayed at the hotel. We love to try afternoon teas around London and have experienced quite a few, and this was the most underwhelming one in terms of quality, service and value for money. We entered the hotel through the bar, where a whole bunch staff was standing and having a heated conversation. They noticed we came in but no one bothered to acknowledge us or help. A hostess showed up in 5 min and seated us. The service was slow, it took about 25 min before anything came to table. We had to chase everything couple of times and remind the waitresses. For various reasons, we only found one or two sandwich types edible. They sparingly give any seconds and that has to be chased too. We ended up paying more than 200 pounds for 2 adults and 2 kids. For that kind of money could have had a steak dinner. Or a decent afternoon tea somewhere else. Odd crowd visiting the hotel bar too, not a great vibe. Definitely would not recommend
The rooms are absolutely lovely, the service is fabulous and the location is top notch for the Sanderson. I would say their areas of improvement would be the breakfast was quite good but the actual full English cooked breakfast could use some slight improvements. It was streaky bacon instead of back which I would prefer. I also felt the sausages lacked some wow factor, considering the price tag of the place. Some small irritations were that one of the lifts was not working, which meant you had to wait for a lift. Additionally, some buttons in our room did not work and the light feature above the table in the deluxe room was perfectly placed to really hurt your head when you stand up. I think overall the Sanderson is wonderful, but I also think it sort of wants to be for £400/night. Rooms: We stayed in a deluxe room which was fantastic. High points: bed very comfortable and spacious, room light and well designed, bathroom fantastic with freestanding bath and shower with separate toilet. Low points: some switches in the room didn't work, only one plug socket on one side of the bed, and light feature above the table placed so that I smashed my head on it standing up, and it really hurt and almost ruined my day. Nearby activities: You are basically on top of most of the cool fun things London offers. If you can afford the price tag and you're not from London, this would be an excellent choice to explore central London. You're about 5 minutes from Tottenham court road which is a great place to shop, and just along from that is Oxford Circus. Both places have excellent travel connections to get anywhere else in London. Noteworthy details: There's a pool table, a lovely outdoor area inside the hotel, a huge stained glass window near the pool table. There's some fantastic interesting design choices inside the lobby and rooms, and the bar and restaurant areas are very swanky and cool looking. You can eat breakfast outside which gives you quite a nice view of the general London morning hubub.
We really appreciated the service from Felipe Brazilian and Maria Spanish, both from the reception. On the other hand, Victoria, also from the reception, was extremely rude to us, and we hated the service. The two young men at the front desk were also extremely attentive and polite, as were those at the bar. Excellent hotel! Excellent location. The only two discomforts were Victoria at the reception and the fact that when we arrived in the room, there was an already opened water bottle next to the bed. However, upon informing the staff member, he promptly resolved it and brought several complimentary ones.
We had a really nice stay. The staff are lovely and very attentive to their guests! The rooms are unique and well decorated. A DJ is available until midnight on certain nights, and we were able to enjoy that. The only unpleasant thing was that we were on the first floor and could hear everything happening outside… no sound insulation at all. I could hear the security guards talking in front of the hotel, as well as drunk people returning from their night out. I could also hear my upstairs neighbour walking and all the comings and goings in the corridor. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep… It’s really disappointing.
Excellent central location, the rooms are spacious by London standards, quirky design but convenient and great service. AC is working fine which is great if you are visiting during summer. On the downside, the amneties were limited. The place is super busy and since it is centrally located, you could hear the street noise during the night.
Had the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea with friends 6 of us. So disappointed! The welcome drink looked great but tasted of water. The tea wasn't refilled. The cakes were tiny tasteless and bland. The scones were lovely but a table spoon of cream to share for 4 scones and we didn't see a waitress to ask for more so ended up not bothering as it would of meant going looking for someone. The 'drink me' drink tasted like water that had just been used to wash celery.. all the tables around us were leaving the same thing so the hotel should be noticing that some items just aren't good enough. £79 and I went to get food after because we were hungry. Really really disappointing, overpriced and underwhelming. The venue is lovely so they're missing target on this.
Location very central and situated on a reasonably quiet road for London staff are all really helpful. Be aware everything in the room is chargeable and is quite expensive. A bag of crisps for instance was £4 . Food & drinks: The cooked breakfast was excellent.
This is not a 5 star hotel, more like a 4 star. There was one thing in particular that stood out to me - the rude manager. As we were checking out, they asked how was our stay. We mentioned there were a few things wrong with the room - a dirty cup, the side light was broken, it was freezing, we couldn't warm it up, and you know, it's just a lot to have go wrong in a 5 star hotel. Now. We've all stayed in budget hotels before - even in them, if there's something wrong with the room, you tell them so that they can fix it for the next guest. In those instances they say thanks, and they'll have the maintenance look at it, and everyone goes on their way. As to whether they ever do anything about it? Who knows, they're budget hotels for a reason. Not in the Sanderson - instead the manager was just straight up aggressive, jumped straight into the "We could have had maintenance look at it last night. What do you expect us to do about it now? We could have switched your room" No ma'am, I do not want to move rooms at half 11 at night.
