Farmers Arms
"The Farmers Arms West Hatch is a rural country pub, restaurant and bed and breakfast. A converted farmhouse that retains many original features, wooden floors, log burner and leather sofas. There are exposed stone walls, a relaxing atmosphere and is very dog friendly. Serving freshly cooked and locally sourced ingredients in our restaurant, we also have a great selection of local beers and ciders. We are ideally situated for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. We are on the route of the Herepath Trail, a 13.5 mile off road trail. There are far reaching views form one of the beer gardens which has to be seen to be believed. There are 5 individually designed rooms in the bed and breakfast. Families welcome."

A great place to go for a meal. Super service from friendly and helpful staff. Location is in the middle of the countryside and head gear views. Food was fantastic on the Sunday a small selection but what there was, was really really good, good sized portions which tested wonderful. A fair selection of wonders and beers was available. As a note the pub is really dig friendly for well behaved dogs.
This was our 1st time back since being taken over a few months ago. Unfortunately we were not impressed. We have always received a warm welcome, well kept beer and a large selection good quality wines over the last 12yrs no matter who happened to have owned the premises at the time but that appears to have been lost under the new management. The Exmoor ale was cloudy and still, the wine choice was like something out of the 80's...a choice of only 3 by the glass and very poor quality.
Hidden jem! A large group of us decided to go for a walk nearby and booked The Farmers Arms for a post walk meal. We rang on the day and amazingly they were able to accommodate 16 of us if we pre ordered our food. No problem there. Loads of parking at the pub and easy to find. We had an afternoon slot and had a small side room to ourselves which was great as 7 of the 16 were kids. Great selection of drinks for all. Food all came out at the same time, all piping hot and all empty plates at the end! I had the Punjabi chicken which was absolutely delicious whilst all the others had traditional pub grub which all looked lovely. Deserts were just as nice, the kids all had baby sundaes. They were huge! Us adults had to help them out with them, not complaining about that! If we didn't have the kids we would have parked ourselves in front of the log stove and had a few more to drink. Seems like a really nice atmosphere with friendly locals propping up the bar. Definitely one we will return to again in the near future.
Perfect location for meeting friends in Taunton 15 minutes up the road, with a stunning outlook across open countryside, along the Staple Mitzpaine Herepath circular cycling / walking route. If we had more time, we would have loved to walk the route, and enjoy the exquisite home-cooked Indian cuisine in the pub on our return. We were very grateful for the delicious meal for 2 we had cooked for us, despite having missed the earlier closing time of the kitchen, on the day we arrived to check in Sunday evening. Great service, good selection of food, to our dietary requirements - including meat and dairy-free. A wonderful atmosphere of locals and visitors, mixing together, facilitated by the hospitality of the committed owner/s and staff. We enjoyed chatting around the open fireplace, to orient ourselves to the area, and find out more about the excellent service and hospitality on offer. We very much recommend Farmer's Arms to anyone passing through this area of outstanding natural beauty; the traditional, modern-facility rooms make a perfect ending to the experience, including Victorian-style bath, with ample space for two : Thanks again, we hope to be back one day... Fiona and Andy. Rooms: The standard of renovation, making it a positive experience.
Having been a happy and frequent visitor to the Farmers Arms previously. I was shocked at the appearance as I walked through the door, from shabby looking throws over the sofas and the general demise of being unkempt. Having asked for a glass of Chardonnay, to a lady shouting across from the fireside, we don’t sell by the glass’ . Later to find out the lady was the new owner. How to win customers !! So I asked for a Pinot blush, the barman said’ what’s that, “I’m not good with wines. I can certainly say the atmosphere and hospitality wasn’t welcoming so we left.
We had a great meal of fish and chips, punjabi chicken and the kids shared a burger. Plus amazing pudding, highly recommend the gulab jamin and white chicolate cheesecake! All the food was spot on! The pub is located on many country walks with a larger pub garden. I couldn't fault it and look forward to going again soon Kid-friendliness: High chairs and kids menu. Could do with some colouring options but we made the most of paper and pens provided
The Farmers Arms has been been taken over by new management since the last time we were there very friendly staff new menu personally I think it needs a bit of tweaking but all in all a very nice stay plus dog friendly and nice walks nearbyFood: 4/5
Christmas Dinner with friends, booked in October. Freezing cold building. Three out of 6 meals cool. Not a lot of reaction when concerns raised. First and last visit.Food: 2/5
What a lovely little find. Nice food. Such a friendly welcome and accommodating family. Thoroughly recommend. X
Booked late for 6 for Sunday lunch , without a problem . Greeted with very warm welcome in logfire lit lounge . Ordered 4 roasts and 2 kiddie meals .There was a bit of a delay in the meals being served , but no issue . Meals themselves could have been warmer , and the Yorkshire puds were a bit lifeless , but the veg accompaniments to the excellent beef were very tasty and unusually surprising .Plenty of young staff that are learning as they go , so look forward to them gaining experience , especially on the till as paying the bill was a bit of an ordeal . The ' no chardonnay ' ethos of the previous owners needs correcting quickly . Who ever heard of no chardonnay ????
