I booked a rental car on Wednesday to travel to a funeral on Thursday. Initially I spoke with Stu at the Leicester HO who helped me choose the right car and insurance. He took all relevant information and reserved my car. Everything confirmed on email for me. He was very easy and personable to speak with. Visiting the Bournemouth branch I was served by “Be”. A professional, smart and friendly girl who explained the process, checked the car with us a Peugeot 2008 and for just £5 organised Breakdown cover. We returned the car yesterday and Be served us again. Her manager very kindly asked us if the funeral went well. A real personal touch that we both appreciated. Melissa helped sort out our mileage for fuel costs as this worked out cheaper than us filling up at a petrol station. Excellent service and will definitely use them again. Thank you!
Great all round car/van hire. Reasonably priced and good quality vans. Busy at times but due to technology employed not too long a wait. Welcoming staff team and very willing to help. Tight and limited access off of main through road but own parking on first floor. Worth using.
To give this 1 star is a lie. I just did it to get to the comment.. First off: Very unprofessional. Upon arrival the female who served us was very chilled back, took details, handed the keys over and off we went. Most would think this is great and we did until the next day. I should now add the desk she was stationed at, which is in direct eye contact of the customer was full of personal items such as pregnancy tests and tampons, amongst her lunch and phone not good customer confidentiality. Van did the trick, was only used to go on 1 drive and then another. Both are privately owned. When bringing van back and waiting in the waiting room for 10 minutes conversations were had between two colleagues, 1 was the previous female who served us when we collected and another female who appeared to be more senior, Checking cars on arrival. Discussing when the van was “checked out” and that it wasn’t on the system, before this I should add this specific employer messy desk seems to have a pattern of not checking checking cars in or out as they talked of two others that weren’t . They then asked us “have you had this van a while” to which we said “no, only yesterday morning we got it”. All of this strikes a combination of concern. Both went outside, discovered quite a dent which anyone would know about if they had done it. We added that this isn’t impossible to be us. We have been outside private properties and of course haven’t bumped anything. Both said “fine don't sign” walked inside and ignored us. I stated to them upon arrival no one did a walk around the van or outlined what dents were already there to us, so this is their word against the ours scenario. They state they do it beforehand but again this could be a ploy to get something fixed. Ironically another customer was having same issue and they were discussing it amongst themselves in the waiting area who zero care. My point is do not trust this branch. They will try to make it look like your fault and the customer service is a disgraceful.
We booked to hire a Europcar van to help with our move from London. We had simultaneously hired another car from Europcar. On arrival at the pickup location we were told we were unable to hire to car as we already had a vehicle hired. It seems unbelievable that the europcar systems could not have given us a warning in advance. We booked both vehicles through the same site. We had taken a taxi to the site and had to take a taxi back. 15 pounds each way. We had to book a last minute man with a van at the cost of £380. The van hire would have been £180. The net cost to us £230. The staff not particularly helpful or sympathetic. They did try to call security to see if it could be overridden. But no luck or support. Won’t hire from europcar again. Should be a simple change to their systems to be able to flag this in advance.
Avoid hiring a car from this awful company. Having pre-booked a car hire I arrived on the day to see the car assigned to me with a very large dent to the side. At this point alarm bells rang as previous google reviews said this company would accuse others of damage to cars when the damage was already there and pointed out. I pointed out the damage and then moved on to final payment. It was at this point I was made aware of the astronomical insurance fees with eye watering excess figures. Considering the damage already on the car and previous reviews I wasn't prepared to take the risk and cancelled the hire, where I was told I can have a full refund as I didn't fulfil the hire. Fast forward a few months and I am still waiting for a refund. And am now being told that the refund will not happen. This is daylight robbery. You can't win. Hire the car and you get accused of damaging an already damaged car and payout £1000 in excess, or cancel due to the damage and you lose your payment fee anyway. I strongly suggest booking any of Europcar's competitors.
The only problem I encountered was in telephoning Eurocar. It took a while to get through. And I used numerous numbers. In one case I was waiting for 20 mins. However, when I did get through, the service was prompt and efficient. The car was good. A little chipped and dirty, but it was a good car and a hood overall experience.
The amazing Bee... Helpful Friendly and very knowledgeable. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Car was presented to me and explained perfectly. So happy couldn't be more so. Thank you Bee.
Charged £ 250 excess onto my card saying that I damaged the vehicle. I drove to the depot that surprised them and pointed out that the damage was already there and on the hire agreement to which they said it looked bigger. Finally got my deposit back. Received my final invoice by email and they then instead of charging me £192 for the day as I had prepaid said that I had it for 3 days and charged it at £90 a day. I collected it at 17.00 and returned it at 15.00 the next day. Have contested it with their head office and will probably end up charging it back with my card issuer. Updated: After I posted this review they called me and said I had it 3 days. I told them that it was 22 hours. They said we can check the CCTV in the parking area to which I said "Go ahead and check". 1 hour later I received and email telling me that they are refunding it - still no apology though. ANOTHER UPDATE Europcar then changed their mind and decided they would be charging me the excess. I don’t think they liked my reviews. Even though I had photos to prove it they still pushed and pushed. They even sent me photos from the depot that showed the damage was already there! After 3 months of back and forth and about 20 emails with Europcar they have finally admitted the depot were wrong and will not be charging me
AVOID EUROPCAR BOURNEMOUTH AT ALL COSTS I'm writing this review to hopefully save some of you from falling to the same scam that's been reported in the UK media several times in the last 5 years. Simply google 'europcar damage scam' and you'll various articles from the Guardian & This is money. If you do not take out their extortionate excess policy, they will fraudulently claim you have caused damage to the vehicle upon handing the keys back. Europcar Bournemouth are claiming that I caused a dent to the rear wing of the vehicle despite there being pre-existing damage already to the wing. From the 'statement of return' report that was shared with me, it states the vehicle was booked back in at 06:50, within 9 minutes they were able to inspect it, identify damage and upload 3 photos onto their report. This is all time stamped on their system as photos were added at 06:59. Please bear in mind it was pitch black outside when this inspection took place, it's almost like they knew exactly where to look... In addition, the damage report I was given at the time of taking out the vehicle was full of inaccuracies, this leads me to believe they are running this scam on a regular basis to anyone that doesn't take out excess cover. In hindsight I shouldn't have dropped the vehicle back outside of their normal operating hours. I parked the car back in it's spot and use their dropbox to hand back the keys. Within 24 hours I received an email from their head office stating I caused damage to the vehicle and failed to report it to Europcar within 24 hours. At this point it's their word against mine as I did not take photos of the vehicle prior to handing the keys back. However, I've rented cars many times and never experienced this issue before both in the UK and abroad. If you've taken the time to read this review, please think twice about using this company. They don't deserve your money, save yourself the stress and use a company that actually cares about operating with honestly and integrity.
Chose Europcar purely because they offer delivery and I didn't want to have go to the rental location straight after a trans-Atlantic flight and trip down to Dorset. I reserved a car from their website, with delivery to my parents' address over two weeks before travel . As I was preparing to head to the airport on the day of travel I received an email from the local office telling me they could not deliver and I would need to collect. No clear reason was given. After several emails back-and-forth during my travel they eventually told me they don't deliver for "overseas customers". If this is the case, why does the website offer it? On arrival in Dorset I had to get a taxi to the rental office extra cost for me and once at the office they refused to accept the insurance coverage provided by my US credit card despite having a letter of confirmation, terms & conditions, etc. previously accepted by other rental companies in the area. They would not let me take the car until I had signed up for their full insurance coverage, costing me an extra $550. Unfortunately by this time I was exhausted from my travel, there were no other companies in the area with availability and I needed a car that day so I had no option but to accept the extra cost. The only positive was the efficiency and friendliness of the guy who collected the vehicle at the end of the rental period. But at the end of the day, the cost of the rental was more than double of what it should have been and I will not use Europcar on future trips to the UK.
