Electric Diner

Story

The Electric Cinema is a movie theatre in Notting Hill, London, and is one of the oldest working cinemas in the country.HistoryThe Electric Cinema first opened in London's Portobello Road on 24 February 1910 and was one of the first buildings in Britain to be designed specifically for motion picture exhibition. It was built shortly after its namesake the Electric Cinema in Birmingham, which predates it by around two months. The cinema was soon eclipsed by the huge picture palaces that became fashionable during the 1930s but, despite being shuttered for brief periods, it has remained in almost continual use until the present day.Designed by architect Gerald Seymour Valentin in the Edwardian Baroque style, it originally opened as the Electric Cinema Theatre. During World War I an angry mob attacked the Electric, believing that its German-born manager was signalling to Zeppelin raiders from the roof, after nearby Arundel Gardens was hit by a bomb dropped from a Zeppelin.Later, in 1932, the Electric became the Imperial Playhouse cinema, though by this time the Portobello Road area had become rather run down, along with the rest of Notting Hill.

Food was good, portion was huge so definitely good value for money. We had pancakes and french toast and both were good. Staff were super nice and customer service was superb.Food: 4/5
I came for happy hour and their Meantime IPA beer was great for a sunny afternoon! Friendly service and loved their interior design too. Will come back next time to try their food as I have heard good feedbacks!Food: 5/5
A wonderful place! I would definitely go back. It is voted as best Diner in London and I totally agree. I would highly recommend the avocado toast for brunch. The atmosphere is amazing and the sofas are very comfortable. Staff were very fast and hard working and I can’t wait to go back.
The Electric Diner on Portobello Road is a culinary gem that seamlessly blends a chic, retro ambience with a modern, electric flair. This diner, known for its eclectic menu, truly comes alive with its signature dish: the honey fried chicken. The dish is a masterful symphony of flavors, where the succulence of perfectly fried chicken meets the sweet, mellow caress of honey. Each bite is a delightful crunch, leading into the tender, juicy meat within, creating a taste sensation that's both comforting and exhilarating. The honey adds a subtle sweetness that complements the chicken's natural flavors without overpowering them, making it an unforgettable dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. Furthermore, the Electric Diner's atmosphere adds to the overall experience. Set in the vibrant and eclectic Portobello Road, the diner's décor is a thoughtful blend of vintage charm and contemporary style, creating a cozy yet lively setting. The staff's attentive service ensures that every visit is memorable, making you feel welcomed and cherished. Whether it's for a casual brunch or a special night out, the Electric Diner offers an experience that's as unique and delightful as its honey fried chicken. In summary, it's a must-visit for both locals and tourists, promising a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds and warms the heart.
Very lively place! We went there on Saturday morning and it was packed! I recommend making a reservation first, we were lucky to get there around 10 and have a booth to ourselves. The food there is a chef’s kiss. We ordered poached eggs on toasts, french toast and avocado toast with poached eggs. Looks like mostly locals go there. The music is loud, but with a good taste!
Great pancakes. Mascarpone and berries were a perfect combo. Not too sweet and not at all sickly. Coffee is great too. Proper fabric napkin and sturdy cutlery - always a win.Food: 5/5
The lunch menu is very limited. eggs Benedict are breakfast only but then toast on the eggs is lunch? a bit confusing, I thought it was a brunch spot and 12.30 was early enough for brunch. Sad meal.Food: 1/5
The sauce of the chicken hamburger is a little bit wired cuz it’s sour. I love the steak, it’s really nice. The avocado on toast with poached eggs tasted normal, nothing special. The waitress didn’t come to serve us until we ask her to.Food: 4/5
Sea bass wasn’t very filling - for the price, I would have expected at least some vegetable sides. Our pancakes came out room temperature and chewy, and we ended up returning the dish :-/Food: 3/5
This establishment offers excellent food in a pleasant atmosphere, and the service provided was both friendly and attentive. I would certainly return for another enjoyable dining experience.Food: 5/5
