Chap at entrance directed me to the ‘toilet’ without explaining I should leave my coat downstairs at the same time. Sniffy chap at dining room entrance looked appalled that I still had my coat with me and starting talking about ‘rules’. Quite unnecessary and lacking in any sort of finesse. Food very school dinners and some staff not at all well trained. Overall, underwhelming. I’m all for tradition but this club could do with a shake up.
Excellent place. Got to be a member though but worth the subs... i am not a member but a guest of one, but was so impressed.
It is a privilege to be invited to this fine establishment. The service & food is faultless. Thank you for the memories
Its a blast from the past, a men only membership club that only invites a 'certain' kind of chap. The rooms are dated, not very clean and late at night it's very noisy in the street, so a disappointing nights sleep on the occasion I was there. Smart clothes only, a tie has to be worn. The food was acceptable for the occasion, but overall, not for everyone. I won't be returning. I'm old, but the idea of a men only club is too old and outdated even for me.
Really superb Club, beautifully presented and in the middle of everything you could desire in London. I found the Staff to be incredibly helpful and pleasant, great ambassadors to the Club
If you get an opportunity to join or be a guest. Take it. Highly recommend the place.
Good old club in a fantastic location. Dining options a bit limited and should relax their dress code in line with modern times.
Went there for a women’s club meeting and was shunted to the back room. They should have a ladies lunch to liven up the place. Too much stodge.
How shall I put it? Still allows only men membership, still has a room named after Clive, yet can not offer a warm scone to be washed down by the tea from Twinings . Honestly more than 80% members come from the Public School Club, why bother keeping the East India as the main name and theme? Could have gone for the old Devonshire.
Would have given it 0 stars. They don't allow women to be members. When are we going to put these ridiculous, misogynistic traditions to rest?! This is the 21st century. Come on, people.
