Doune Castle

Story

Absolutely breathtaking! The added historical information provided via audio guide was a bonus. I would have liked to see certain parts of the castle and it's grounds which were closed. However, I quite understand that renovations were going on and our safety was their concern. We plan to take the grand children as soon as they get in this summer.

The audio device would have been nice to follow but, as we this was only a quick stop on the way to another destination, we didn't have the time for that. Still managed to visit every location within the grounds. There is a dungeon of sorts (not large and seen through a hole in the floor), so that makes it a proper castle, right? :) You can stand in what remains of a massive fireplace used for baking and cooking and even today you can feel the draft of air engineered into it. Another remote small room must have been lonely to be shut into.. unless that was for punishment too. All in all, a pretty impressive place.

The audio guide is probably the best that I have ever listened to. It's very entertaining There are plenty of small room to crawl into. Toilets are outside near the car park and is very clean and maintained. Staff are very helpful in answering any questions.
