The refurb has made all the difference and they have at long last got the lighting right. Not too dark you can’t see what you’re doing but sufficiently low lit that you’re afforded some privacy and it delivers an atmosphere. The layout is 100% better and the text/workouts area is in a far more sensible location. The kit is top notch and as always the staff are the happy helpful crew they were before the changes. The only issue is that even at an off time it is quite busy. At peak times there’s just not enough kit/space for members.
A friend took me here on her membership as a plus one, my first time at any gym and I have to say what a fine establishment, the staff I did interact with were very nice and polite. I went mainly in the pool inside and out, the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all fantastic all clean not too busy went on a Sunday afternoon. The changing rooms were very clean with decent shower facilities and have a very nice looking décor. While I didn't use any gym equipment I did pop in and it looks as if they had everything you would need, a very nice looking area to work out in. We had food afterwards and again I have to say I was very impressed with the quality of the food, the speed and service.
Gym is good and instructors are great especially yoga. Pool temperature is good for long swims. Deductd stars because showers are dirty. Black mould and often cold. Not good considering what I'm paying.
The facilities are extensive with good quality equipment - The staff are very friendly and helpful and the cafe food is good value. Would recommend - unfortunately my wife and I would not be able to make sufficient use to warrant membership.
Excellent facilities and classes. Lots of activities to choose from all day long. Haven’t had the best experience interacting with the club. Slow to respond to emails/queries, seems a bit disjointed. At least they’ve got the fitness part right!
Excellent facilities, but one big problem. Click around on the app to experiment with "other" facilities and all of a sudden you get money taken from your account by direct debit with no notification or no knowledge. CANCEL your direct debit and pay for membership manually at the reception each month so you don't get caught out because you won't get your money back when you complain. I'm still waiting after 3 weeks with NO response
Unfortunately, the family members big spenders in the cafe and on additional services like swimming lessons, crèche, tennis etc have been completely forgotten about and pushed to the side. I have been a member for 5 years and have always sung DL’s praises and encouraged friends to join but that’s not the case anymore. I cannot fault the fantastic and dedicated staff at DL, too many to name individually, the staff are the life and soul of the place but the upper upper management leave little to be desired. I am a platinum member and pay extra for services like Blaze but management have reduced the classes and it is now impossible to get into a class that coincides with the crèche. I have two children 2 and 6 and there used to be clubs that coincided with crèche over the weekends/holidays so that I had both looked after and could train but again that has been stripped back so no more weekend workouts for me… I used to eat at DL with the kids 3 times a week but the cafe has taken such a dive that the food has become almost inedible not the fault of staff or the chef, it’s the cheap slop that they are forced to dish up. This is not just my opinion, it is the opinion of many long term members, some of whom have left the club recently. There is a general consensus that whilst the staff are fantastic, management don’t care about the members and are more interested in getting new members than retaining existing ones - a business model that I do not understand? There are often very very generous deals and promotions offered to potential new members trials that fill up classes that we existing members pay for but exiting members get very little other than the odd guest pass. It’s all a big shame as pre COVID the club was fantastic and I couldn’t fault it but now it’s very mediocre. Update on above: nobody from management contacted me as promised standard as nobody contacts you when you get a notification on the app to review your club and request a call back, it’s a running joke with members and over a week out I can’t book into a Blaze class. Frustratingly DL Group have just purchased the Country Club that I was thinking of defecting to…. No other options now and they know that. The Worthing Club used to be so good pre-COVID. What happened???
As I have two bulging discs I had a sauna jacuzzi x 2 plus a back gentle swim and a few stretches. So sad I need to cancel my membership in march as its too expensive
I made an online enquiry to see the prices of membership. After seeing the monthly fee of £124 per month plus a further rip off of £75 joining fee, I decided DL wasn’t for me or my purse. However, since my online enquiry I have been harassed by telephone calls from DL. Yesterday I had TWO voicemails in one afternoon. Over the last week I’ve had about 5 voicemails chasing my membership. Clearly blocking their number so their calls go straight to voicemail hasn’t given them the message. Can you stop harassing new members please. It’s embarrassing for you. If I wanted to join I would. A desperate call is not gong to get my money. Your prices are ridiculous so please stop. Stop the practice of harassment. It’s not acceptable. Sports and fitness should be accessible to everyone. Not just people who own Range Rovers.
I joined last 4 months ago and they have already put there monthly membership up by 10% More over I wasn't notified by David Lloyd . I followed up on their on-line app but they take days to respond so spoke to the reception staff who checked and advised that prices had risen., The worst thing is although they have increased classes they have cut back on instructors so most of the extra classes are now virtual and as a result the virtual classes are practically empty!!. Many of the instructors I have spoken to have confirmed this to be the case and that there hours were cut and to speak to head office. They are also not happy with the decisions being made. Many of the members are seriously not happy with these changes, its not working If your going to charge £150 p/m in a cost of living crisis then at very least you should provide instructors for the extra classes! Not impressed and your members are not either - I would advise re looking at this asap as virtual just doesn't work for your members all for the sake of more money in your corporate pockets especially across your blaze and spinning classes. Kate.
