The recent refurbishments to the Tower are magnificent. The views from the lower and upper platforms of the surrounding Moorland are stunning. The steps inside have been resurfaced and though much safer, some may find them difficult to negotiate with the lack of a hand rail. Take your time, let the young ones fly past you, and you'll find the climb well worth it. All credit to the Borough Council responsible for the restoration work carried out.
Darwen Tower is set on the moors high above Darwen. It is a great place to walk to if you like stunning views of the surrounding areas of Blackburn and Darwen. On a good clear day you may see Blackpool Tower and the sea glistening in the distance, and also if you look in another direction, you will see in the distance the hills around the Trough of Bowland. You need to be a good walker and wear walking boots and take waterproofs as it is a steep climb from The Royal Pub Tockholes you can get great food and drink there too!. You could also approach it from the Sunny Hurst Woods Darwen. It really is worth going up to Darwen Tower as it is very picturesque and a wild landscape.
Darwen Tower is best to approach through Bold Venture Parks from Darwen, or from the direction of Sunnyhurst pub. It is a free of charge access lookout tower on top of a hill. It can provide great view, in case of good weather, even the sea can be seen. The tower was refurbished recently and it is still fenced around, which blocks people entering the tower. 13-07-22 Lots of trail leads from there to the moor with various length. The only thing I ask from people visiting the area is that whatever you take with you to the walk, please don't leave it behind!
Amazing afternoon hike upto the tower. The views were great and not very busy. It's a shame you can't go up the tower, I'm sure the views would be breathtaking. Definitely recommend!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fabulous views from the tower. We followed the Witton Weavers Tacklers trail. The moors do become very muddy and boggy after heavy rain so wear waterproof boots.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Upon seeing Darwen tower on my return from wherever I've been it's always a welcome site to behold. Little old Darren will always hold a place in my heart forever. My photo of the tower on this occasion is clouded in mist but nevertheless I thought it was worth adding. Please follow me if you enjoy my reviews
Went upto the tower with family to catch the sunset... Absolutely amazing views.Visited onWeekday
Nice walk up to the tower thank god they had rest stops we could not go near as they had work going on will have to go again Visited onWeekend
Classic short to moderate walk and, as ever, inspirational views of classic Lancashire countryside. Can't wait for the tower restoration to finish to see the views from the top.
Nice little walk . Well worth the visit. My 7 Yr old thoroughly enjoyed the hike up to the tower. Can get windy near the top so go prepared in case the forecast shows rain. Great views from the top as well.
