Dark Matter Cafe and Bar is a Gaming Cafe and Bar in Durham City, with Comic Books, Gaming Consoles, Board Games, and event nights with a great range of food and drinks from MASSIVE burgers, to Cake Shakes and more. NOW SERVING Alcohol!

Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm and Sundays from 11am to 5pm

NOW OPEN a Cafe to just chill you can come and enjoy our range of comics available for sale and rent while you enjoy some great fresh brewed coffee and great food!

We will also be hosting Wizard Play Network Events with Dungeons and Dragons, Magic Trading Cards, Pokemon Trading Cards.

Cool little place, hidden out the way slightly outside the centre of Durham. Coffee is ok and the selection of free to play retro games consoles and board games is a nice touch.

Great cafe. Awesome food and drinks, they've recently changed their menu so there's more choice. All day breakfast is beautiful! And they now have an alcohol licence so if you fancy a beer or cocktail with your food that is very doable. Oh and not to forget the awesome geeky theme and merchandise. Definitely visit if you get chance =

Staff are really friendly and were incredibly helpful when we sailed in with two babies. It’s a chill place to hang out, play board games, and admire the decor. The food isn’t amazing, but it’s good and inexpensive, and well worth it for the atmosphere.

Very nice little place. I love how they have a projector with a movie on playing if you want to watch.  The seats are comphy and plentiful. They even got games consoles set up around the place.  The food is amazing. Those bacon butties man, pancakes are top notch too.  The staff are amazingly friendly and pŕovide an amazing service.  Only downside is that they dont sell MTG singles.... yet.  Would be here all the time if I were local.

The most original place I've been for a long time. You may have a nice meal. You can play consoles, board games as well as ... a 30yo flipper!!! And the crew is not just "friendly" - they're fantastic. All thumbs up!

Great fun cafe/bar. Simple but tasty food. The milkshakes are great. Very intensely themed with a geek aesthetic. Avid or casual video game fans will enjoy this place

Great atmosphere! The whole crowd welcomed me, my boys and my dog has never been as fussed. Games to play while you wait and micro communities wanting to recieve you and teach the virtues of the games they form around.

Great tasting food, great location, great vibe, comfy sofas and armchairs, a really friendly and helpful crew, and more games than you can shake a joystick at! Our first visit here but certainly won't be our last.

Excellent niche cafe just outside Durham city centre great little gaming cafe with excellent staff food was hot and delicious and very reasonably priced owner Lindsey is amazing not like most cafe owners she interacts fully with customers even showing my young lad how to play on an N64. Amazing activities to do from card games to XBOX and puzzles very well thought out cafe and I can't recommend it enough

Dark matter is a brilliant cafe! such a welcoming atmosfear, with awesome staff, and beautiful drinks and food... the frappes are amazing! very child friendly also, my Son 2yo loves being there, playing with the toys and coloring... Definetly worth a visit =
