Story

Danny Cooley has been in the Jewellery Trade 1952 starting off in clock repairs. In 1979 Danny opened his first business in a small shop in Butcher Street accompanied by his daughter Brenda who also left school to help father and is still here today as Manageress.

Danny felt Butcher Street wasn’t the most ideal site for the shop therefore opened another business in Shipquay Street, during this time it was the height of the troubles and in 1981 a number of shops in Butcher Street were targets of firebombs including his own, therefore Danny took the decision to concentrate on the one shop and then extended to our current site in 1998.

"D. Cooley is a family-run business located in the heart of Derry on Shipquay Street which has been in business for over 40 years. Opened in 1979 by Danny Cooley who has over 50 years’ experience in the jewellery trade which is now run by daughter Brenda who has worked in the store since she was 16 years of age.D. Cooley offer a bespoke service in its new ‘bridal area’ where you have the privacy to pick that all-important ring. We are Diamond & Wedding ring specialists with over 40 years experience in this trade."
