Crolla's Italian Kitchen

About

Quality Italian dining in a unique setting

Story

Joe Crolla, together with our father and son team, Giuseppe and Adriano Amato who are the manager and chef are proud to have chosen Musselburgh as the home of our first restaurant together.
Musselburgh has long standing ties with Italy the town being born from the original Roman settlement around AD 85, there are still many Roman remnants in the area not least Musselburgh's most iconic landmark the Roman Bridge just round the corner from us.
More recently Musselburgh has been twinned with Rosignano Marittimo and has been home to many Italian families - the Lucas, the Di-Rollos, the Crollas, to name a few.
The Crolla Family originate from a village south of Rome just outside the town of Atina which itself was originally settled by the Romans and is situated in the heart of the old Roman Empire. With our passion for food and wine we aim to bring a taste of our home town and province to Musselburgh.

I suppose you could say the Romans are back!!

Loved everything about this beautiful spotless restaurant. The staff were exceptional from the minute we walked through the front door. Our food was simply lovely. I cannot wait to return. Oh Luca or Lucas one of the restaurant staff was brilliant with our Autistic Grandson
Visited during a work event day out and was unaware there was a restaurant in this location.nCrolla's is off the beaten track of Musselburgh town centre and I wouldn't be aware of a restaurant where it's situated.nIt was booked for our work day out hence the visit.nIt's a nice place, food and service good and didn't disappoint.nI had pepperoni and mushroom pizza, I'm not keen on Italian style pizza with the larger crust, however this is personal preference and nothing wrong with it. The topping was tasty but I do wish I had chosen the pasta as others looked nice.nDessert was pistachio cheesecake as pictured and very tasty.nOur waitress was great and joined in with the fun of one of our crowd also making sure we were fine for anything required.nI'm not from the area or I'd visit again, however now I know it's here would book if in the area again.
We stopped off for a drink after the Riverside walk . As it was very windy the waiter suggested we sit inside. We took his advice and sat at a table he showed us in the bar area. We made our selection from the wine menu and waited on someone to take our order. Nobody came. There were staff taking breaks behind us,a bar tender, waitress and the waiter who had seated us but nobody acknowledged us! It was not clear to us if we were supposed to order at the bar as it is part of the restaurant, but felt that someone could have informed us as we were close to the bar and the staff!nFinally we did order at the bar. The barman was then friendly and we enjoyed a chat before we left after paying the bill.nSorry to say I didn't feel welcome amongst the staff.
Lovely restaurant in nice location. Food very good but a bit of a delay between starter and main course. Waiters very friendly and helpful with choices from the menu. Desserts to die for and good selection of cocktails. Only 1 Rose wine on offer which was disappointing but otherwise had an enjoyable meal with friends. Would recommend to others.
Had late lunch today outside. Phoned ahead. Waited ages for service and had to go to collect menus. Ordered 2 glasses of prosecco and olives whilst waiting for two pizzas and bottle of wine. Drinks order forgotten so by this time I cancelled the prosecco. Repeated reminders and after no fewer than 5 different people, finally we received the food. Despite ordering the best the pizzas they were decidedly average and only tepid when they arrived.nA very poor experience, nothing like true Italian culinary expertise and grossly overpriced at just short of £80 without service! Sadly it does not live up to its name! Never again.nPeter Gibson
