I have been both the Crimble and Peakcock Rooms several times over the past 3 years as an ideal location for business dinners with visiting customers. Service is always excellent with a wonderful menu and drinks selection. The Peakcock room is usually quiet so dinner conversation is uninterrupted and easy. The food is also very very good & reasonably prices. There are fancier restaurants but if you want good quality tasty food, in a relaxing environment with great service then the Crimble is hard to beat! It does however have its quirks; To access the bathroom from the Peakcock room you walk through a mix of is best described as a cloak room and kitchen linen storage area! While access is typically unimpeded it does feel like the area has been forgotten about! The final one is personal taste, but the decoration is defiantly marmite love / hate. I assume based on the faux roman columns and classical ish sculptures someone last gave the face lift in the 90s when this was fashionable, but for me it just clashes with what is otherwise a wonderful example of Georgian architecture! These quirks have no real effect on the overhaul dining experience which is other wise fantastic. I will undoubtedly be back again and would highly recommend
Very nice venue, really seems to have upped its game recently. Hosted my dad's 70th and did a bang up job. Food very nice and good service...
If you want to go to a restaurant to be seen at the right place in the right clothes... Rather than for the service and food... You probably won't try the Crimble. Yet it is a fantastic place. You cannot fault the service at all. The food is excellent. The decor is plush and elegant. I am biased as I have been going there since I was 18... My daughter grew up eating there, its got a new team new menu with he same excellent service and food. If I could give it more than 5 I would. It beats the Pavillion and the Bird hands down in my recent experience...
My first ever visit to take a very dear friend for lunch as she had worked there in the 1960s the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, we had an old-fashioned starter of a prawn cocktail which was full of juicy prawns and came with tasty brown bread. We decided to have the roast beef which came with a good selection of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The beef was very tasty juicy and moist. Sadly many other establishments ruin it by turning it into shoe leather making it inedible. We had a bottle of red wine which was reasonably priced. We decided to have ice cream as we're quite full to finish our meal. The meal was from the set menu. We could have ordered from the a-la-carte menu which I found was very reasonable. 10/10
I went to celebrate a family members birthday however I never felt so disappointed . The menu has changed no kids menu and not many options also the food wasn't good. I was told I had to get there as quickly as possible as it was completely booked after half an hour of my call so we ran there and for my shocked it was empty and we still had to wait quite a while for our food. So as a result unfortunately I cannot recommend to anyone and also I can't see myself going back there which is quite sad as it is a beautiful restaurant vin a great location too.
Under new management from our previous visit but if anything we, a large party of 10, received an improved service in that the time between courses was to my mind judged just right. Staff where also friendly and courteous, but in this they had always been so in the past, food standard still of a high quality whilst in no way expensive especially given the beautiful old style building that has been over the years been tastefully extended to meet to an obviously popular demand. Well it has always been busy when we have been :-
Having been a customer of this restaurant for many years i have visited twice with a group of friends this month on both occasions the meal experience was of a low standard compared with a degree of excellence once provided. I notice that familiar staff are no longer there it appears the place may be under new management. The staff appeared to be inexperienced when we sat at the table no one visited to ask for drinks when someone did arrive it was part way through the meal we asked for wine & water the water never arrived . The prices of the food has increased all four of us had steaks three of which were tough even though the steaks were cooked medium rare . On the other occasion our party of six in the peacock room had the Christmas menus the turkey was very dry everyone in our group was less than satisfied with their meals & service . Given this experience i will take my custom elsewhere until things improve to an acceptable standard .
A vast improvement on the previous owners Decker group Crimble Hall, looked very clean and elegant, staff very polite & helpful. Our meal was served hot and well prepared by the kitchen staff. One very slight negative point to make, and it was slight ! This is for the management and new owners, This point was the paper table cloths, on top of the cotton ones!! just made it feel like a children's party it would be better with just the white cotton table cloth ,or without any at all,you don't expect this in a restaurant of this calibre . All that said, we had a very good night.
Went last night for my friends birthday. The food was very disappointing to say the least. 5 adults had steak: combination of fillet, sirloin and rump, which was extremely burnt on the outside and tasted of charcoal, while the children could not eat their sausages as they were burnt also. The children left the restaurant still hungry which is not good and for the amount of money spent, the quality of the food was very poor. The only positive was the friendly staff who offered free desserts, but this did not make up for the terrible food. The chef needs to turn the flame down on his grill as burnt/charcoal tasting food is not good-especially when you are going to celebrate someone's birthday. We will not be returning again in a hurry.
We visited Crimble Hall as a party of 7 to celebrate a birthday, and couldn't have been happier with the experience we had. The staff were all wonderfully attentive, friendly and polite, and happily brought a birthday cake out to the table, sang happy birthday, and took several photos of our group for us. The food was fantastic - all of us had empty plates after each course!
