Lovely, buzzy setting for a lunch however the staff are both rude and have very little training. When one dish was no longer available, they didn’t know what accompanied the replacement dish. They also said “they don’t know anything about wines” when asked what white wines they had. A table beside left due to lack of service and another table’s order never arrived so they had to ask for it. Extremely overpriced also. €18 for both mains- one vegetarian and one meat dish. Small portions for that price point. Such a shame as the Crawford art gallery is so beautiful and although the food and wine was tasty, I would not recommend or return because of the price and staff.
Against my better judgment I share this review, purely from a selfish reasoning I would prefer that others not identify, appreciate and indulge in the delights of this re-born venture. The proprietors of this cafe formerly of Docklands have once again delivered a wonderful lunch menu in a quite constrainted space. I had the English Market plate , a few chilled glasses of their house white, wonderful wonderful wonderful coffee cake and a double espresso- the sun total of which was around €50 #truestory ! The environs, staff, menu, the food …. Honestly if they had rolled out sleeping bags I gladly would have stayed…. Go there - but please not in numbers as I like it A LOT !
Chaotic service. Mediocre quality coffee and overpriced €4.05 for a black coffee, €7 for small slice of cake...seriously folks??. A gorgeous space indoors and out, deserves a much better offering than this.Food: 3/5
I rate this only one star. I arrived at the cafe at 2.30pm. I was left waiting at the door for a table for 15 minutes and it was not until a customer saw me and indicated to the staff. It could be forgiven tot think they did not see me waiting at the door but two staff were backwards and forwards passing the door where I was standing. A young waitress opened the door to let me in at the same time checking her watch and telling me there was time. As it was at this time 2.24pm and the cafe doesn't close until 4pm, it was an irrelevance. When I was admitted I asked for a table for 1. There were plenty of tables already to go making my wait at the door all the more superfluous and unnecessary. I asked for a cup of decaffeinated coffee. While waiting a waitress came up to me and demanded my order-she was referring to a meal. I didn't want a meal only a drink. Which was brought in a small cup but no milk. Took another 5 minutes to get the attention of the staff who then obliged by getting a jug. The whole time I was drinking I felt uncomfortable and there was a sense of urgency of getting me out of the cafe. Very disappointed. I had waited a while to stop by the cafe since its refurb as I had many happy memories in years gone by. Sadly the friendliness of this was not to be seen today. I gave a single star because the coffee was nice but the rest was certainly not worth any more. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend it? No.
Having just read Joe Mcnamees review on Saturdays examiner I felt obliged to respond. I had lunch here on Thursday with 3 friends I can't speak highly enough of the food wine etc. We all had different mains and all agreed it was one of our better lunches. I felt the review was so unfair. I would advise anyone to try it and ignore J McNamee. A wonderful treat awaits
Update 14th August 2022. SADLY this café/restaurant closed for business on 13th August 2022. Sad because it was really a very special place, not to mention great food located in a very historic building. It may be replaced by another food company but there is no public news about that just yet. A really special treat. This is such a lovely cafe, installed in the old gallery with all original features intact. Cosy and friendly. For lunch we had the Mushroom Pancake - no wait, keep reading...... it was the best filled pancake I ever tasted. THE FLAVOURS <drooling emoji. It's my second time having that. My DP had the tart, can't remember what tart it was but who cares, she shared a little with me, and it was spectaculiciousmagorical. DP also purchased a side of chips which looked and tasted very home made and she shared with me. She is a very kind DP. This was all accompanied by a few glasses of vino. Rookie mistake was to buy by the glass, should have purchased a bottle, but we will next time. I had dessert, Plum and Almond tart with cream and while it wasn't spectaculiciousmagorical, it was very delicious. That was accompanied by a small carafe of brew coffee poured into china cups. DP passed on the caffeine and had another liquid grape instead. Staff were lovely, smiiley and bantery but not too much. I just have one negative. There is a door from the cafe out to the patio where there are outdoor tables and there is some arctic breeze blowing in there when the staff leave it open, which they do a lot and while that's not a problem in summer, we visited in mid February and I'm sure I got a crick in my neck from it, but that's another story!
2 coffees in very small cups, 1 slice of mediocre coffee cake, € 14.75. Hugely overpriced. Staff were friendly and efficient.
I only had an almond cake. But the staff and the cake were both lovely. The entire gallery space is wonderful. Highly recommended.
12.50 euro for a toasted ham and cheese sandwich! I've seen more ham on a butchers pencil and the cheese was a yellow stain on the bread.
Food here is excellent... tables available in the garden so a real relaxing oasis in the city centre! However they serve their lattes in a teeny tiny teacup... 2 mouthfuls and it's gone! Total rip off! So absolutely great for brunch, lunch etc but NOT the place for a latte!
