You pay to get onto the pier at Cleveden and it’s worth every penny, not least to protect such a beautiful structure, which could have been lost to the sea decades ago. Your ticket is valid for a year. There is a lovely little shop you pass through that has lots of interesting souvenirs, so well worth browsing. The pier itself takes you out into the Bristol Channel with views of Wales on a clear day, plus all the passing ships. There are a few shelters to protect you from the wind as well as a small shop at the end, all beautifully designed. Along the pier there are plaques, funded by donations to maintain the pier and there’s a website you can use to order one. As well as the views, there is an interesting summary of the pier’s history, including recordings from people who witnessed its collapse and celebrated its reopening.nIf we are ever passing on the M5, Cleveden pier is always a stop we make as it’s so much more refreshing than stopping at the services.nRecommended.
what a gorgeous gorgeous spot! so well maintained and surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the town. there is an entry fee depending on the group, places to eat at the pier and other facilities as well. a cute shop to buy merchandise from as well which has the most amazing staff who would direct you to enjoy the pier properly as a 1D fan!
We held my amazing mum’s memorial service on the Pier last Friday. It was perfect, unique and totally beautiful. From the beginning of booking the memorial a few months ago all of the staff at the Pier were wonderful. They helped me order a ‘Large Bench Plaque’ for mum, they ensured it was sited exactly where I wanted it and when I needed it done by. I’ve attached a photo taken 10 years ago of us on the pier with my mum’s say on the bench exactly where they put the plaque for us!nThen they were totally transparent about different costs and options, they took time to get the menu perfect for us. They showed the celebrant I had booked and the Tech guy I had used around the pier in the weeks before to ensure everything was perfect for us on the day. It was a perfect stormy grey November day, we had the service in the bell room at the end of the pier so we could shelter from the weather and have the screen for slideshows and audio for music. Once the tributes had been spoken and audio photos watched.. we then went out to where mums plaque had been fixed for the celebrant to dedicate the plaque… finally led by me and my daughter we all threw a long steamed pink rose over the side and the tide took the 40 roses under the pier and beautifully like a game of extravagant pinks”Pooh sticks” the roses floated on the waves out towards the estuary… so sad but so beautiful and a perfect image of the day!nAfter the service we then all went to the Glass Box restaurant where the pier staff had set up a very generous buffet style wake. We chose to have the bar available but for guests to pay for their own drinks which worked really well for a memorial, however, there was a option for drinks to be provided to our guests which would be better for a celebration type event. The Lift down to the toilets was broken but the staff had already worked out a way for disabled people to use a toilet there, as a disabled person I want to thank you especially for thinking of that!nAll in all the memorial was perfect. We gave mums the most beautiful service in the most unique memorable location. All of our guests enjoyed it and have said they will remember this always.. thank you all at Clevedon Pier.
To say I was a little sceptical about paying to walk on a pier is a bit of an understanding statement. Turns out my scepticism was unfounded.this is a gem of a place and a chance to not only take in the stunning views but to also feel like you have stepped back in time to when people didn't need flashing lights and loud noises to make something fun. Without the money raised by charging people I've no doubt this peice of history would have disappeared. The memorial plaques are a nice touchmy daughter being particularly impressed by the one commemorating one directions appearance here. But the real star of the show is the pier itself so take your time and enjoy.
