For anyone not familiar with Samuel Smith pubs it's worth noting that they serve their own range of beer and spirits and have a very particular style: consciously old-fashioned with no music and traditional pub-grub. This particular location is perfect for that type of brewery, with high vaulted ceilings and an almost church-like decor. Worth a visit if you're into ales and historic buildings.
A most charming old world feel to this characterful English pub modelled on a much more historic design. I loved it. Just passing through today, but I heartily recommend it.... And on a hot scorching day outside, it is refreshingly cool inside, and with a tasty beer and pie or fish n chips you are in heaven....!! Don't miss the opportunity to visit!!
A highlight of out trip. The location is historic. The beer outstanding recommend the red ale bitter and the pure brewed organic lager. Has several niches/booths to sit with friends in privacy. A trip to the past expecting the knights to show up any moment .
Very strange bar. Not a winery not a church, very dimly lit and ferociously hot for some reason. The kind of place you would go on Halloween. All drinks and I mean ALL, are brands you've never heard off and not the cheapest bar either. I'm sure it has a cult following, sadly I'm not part of it. You can't like everything I guess
Incredibly cool and unique pub. The decor has been kept to a really unique old London style, really feels like you're stepping into history here. The selection of alcohol is quite broad and has a lot of unique and great tasting options available, particularly the beers available on draught and the fruity beer options. There is usually enough seating available and has some booths available that are brilliant for groups. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Pricing is about average for the area.
Not much to add, beautiful and spacious dark wood interior, is a Samuel Smiths pub so you get good value. Historic site but this building originates from the 1920's but looks MUCH older. Enjoy. M
A tiny and unsuspecting gem, right in the heart of London. We came out of a long business meeting and we’re stumbling down the streets, looking for a cute pub and this place did not disappoint. It does not look much from the outside but the interior is amazing and I won’t even guess how many centuries it must be old. Decent variety of beers from the tab and friendly service!
Brilliant Samuel Smiths, City pub. Built in 1920s Tudor but has a great atmosphere despite that. Good range of food and some very snug seating areas. Has an amazing fireplace s too
I really liked this pub when I visited 2019. It’s very unique with old world feel, wood floor and paneling. Large barrels abound which give it all a very old London feel. There are cubicles to sit in too which are really nice, plenty of standing room and a long bar. The beers are Samuel Smith which I like and staff were attentive. I would definitely check this pub out it you’ve not been it really has a great character and worth stopping for a pint if you’re in the area.
What a cracking little pub. It's a bit disorientating to navigate at first. Love the booths!!! And the beer is great. Samuel Smith's Pale Ale is stunning. Staff were friendly enough, they really graft which may explain a few tired looking faces!! Toilets were clean enough. Will definitely add this to the list.
