Chichester Festival Theatre

About

Chichester Festival Theatre is one of the United Kingdom's flagship theatres, with a dazzling international reputation.

Story

Chichester Festival Theatre is one of the UK’s flagship theatres, renowned for the exceptionally high standard of its productions as well as its work with the community and young people. Situated in the lively and beautiful cathedral city of Chichester, the Festival Theatre’s bold thrust stage design makes it one of England’s most striking playhouses; a studio theatre, the Minerva Theatre, sits nearby.

The annual summer Festival season runs from April to October, during which productions originated at Chichester reach an audience of over 200,000 and frequently transfer to the West End. Year-round programming continues through the winter with the Theatre presenting high-class touring productions, as well as a traditional Christmas show mounted by the renowned Chichester Festival Youth Theatre.

Rooted firmly in its community, the Theatre runs a Learning, Education and Participation (LEAP) programme that is a beacon of excellence and inspiration to its local audience, as well as being home to one of the country’s largest youth theatres with over 750 members.

Beautiful and great show - random/generations. Venue is light bright and really comfortable. A lovely stroll through the town from the train station gets you to this modern theatre, its also really big. Very impressed with service too.

As my first ever ballet experience we went to watch the Swan Lake ballet. It was very entertaining and a completely new sort of experience. The theatre chairs were very comfy and the sound was great. The stage however was a bit small and due to where we were sitting, there was a part of the backdrop background that we couldn't see. Other than that it was very interesting. I recommend it to newcomers but more seasoned theatre goers would enjoy a bigger stage with more viewing angles.

Great venue to see a variety of plays/shows. 2 wheelchair accessible toilets down stairs and one on the upper floor. There is a lift, just about big enough for 1 power chair user and 1 manual wheelchair user and a couple of able bodied people. The lift is always occupied by a member of staff. You are given a card with information in case of fire. Food and drink.is quite pricey so take your own snacks, unless you want alcohol or coffee. The only downside is the car park as it's not exclusive to the theatre, so unless you get there early, parking can be a problem especially the Disabled Bays (often used by non disabled people) The Minerva opposite is much smaller with only two wheelchair user spaces available separately. It is a much more intimate venue

Went with relatives to see Noel Cowards present laughter. great cast, and lots of laughter. Would recommend it for a good night about but avoid the bistro, duff service and overpriced food.
