Absolutely shocking experience at Chevin lodge and even worse / non-existent customer service since. When we arrived at our lodge, there was no toilet roll and the hot tub was not to temperature nor would it warm up. When I spoke to the reception team they advised it was probably because it had been refilled, although in paying for a stay with a hot tub, you would expect it be available for use from the time of check in. After some time, a manager brought some toilet roll and fixed the hot tub. That being said once we could finally use it, the stench was terrible. In addition, in using the spa facilities the next day, the changing room and pool area were filthy. The slats weren't securely fastened in the sauna and both the jacuzzi and outside hot tub were cold. In returning home I developed a spotted rash. This continued to spread until I was forced to seek medical attention. Two Dr's commented they had never seen anything like it and confirmed that the reaction was due to unsanitary conditions that we had been exposed to during our stay. As such, I was prescribed strong antihistamines and antibiotics. I've contacted the hotel several times explaining my concerns, providing images and requesting an update on how they will ensure this does not happen for future customers. I have received no response. Whilst I must say the food was lovely, the experience was otherwise disgraceful.
I’ve never been to such a badly run spa day. We arrived and they didn’t even have gowns so they gave us slippers and two towels, one to wear and one to dry ourselves on. The bar in the spa was not open so we had to use the hotel bar which was hosting a wedding. We had to go into the wedding venue line up with a towel and slippers on with the other guests and buy our drinks. We asked the staff to get our drinks and they said they were too busy. So into the wedding we had to go I’ve never been so humiliated in my life. To be honest I wouldn’t answer the door to the window cleaner dressed like that let alone stand in a full blown wedding. And I’m sure the wedding guests definitely didn’t want us there either. The four of us had treatments booked one at 2pm and three others at 2x 5pm and 5.30pm so we had no choice but to stay. Other guests had the same issue with treatment times. That’s weird just put one group together and the other later surely. Didn’t even eat the food included in the spa day as the other guests were saying how bad it was. Upon leaving the changing room was an absolute disgrace towels and slippers everywhere. Nobody had cleaned in there all day. On the upside the masseuse was great at her job.
I am late writing this review but felt so compelled to do so that here we are. We went for one night in November 2022 and it was the worst hotel stay I recall having. The room was really dated, the mirrors were filthy I don't particularly need to see myself, it was more that it was a sign of poor cleaning, the desk was dusty, the bath fittings were rusty, the bed was hard, pillows lumpy. We had dinner included in our room price and it was really bad food. I left half my starter and main course as they were just not enjoyable. My husband ordered a desert and that was actually lovely. The pool had just been refilled probably following the review of the lady who got a rash as it was around that time!. We went to have a look and saw two ladies getting in and saying it was freezing and so we skipped that activity. There was supposed to be prosecco in the room but there wasn't, we had to ask for it. When we woke in the morning we decided just to leave. We didn't have breakfast or even showers, we just hastily packed and left.
Unfortunately a massive let down from start to finish. Under staffed, had to wait 5+ minutes for everything. Drinks and food left on the side, in sight, not being brought to you. Being served by dirty clothed kitchen staff, being moaned at my a proper waiter for complaining about the service charge on the fattiest steak I've witnessed. To top it off the only reason why we went, for a massage each, got cancelled. Meaning the one relaxing thing we had there was replaced with more frustration. Loud music randomly in the early morning, walls so thin you think your neighbor is in the bathroom and a mattress that feels like it's been filled with knives. Honestly one of the worst places I've been, would stay clear until they sort themselves out. Not for the faint hearted. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Don't waste our money.
Lovely place. Stayed 1 romantic night and could not fault the service. We stayed in the main hotel,only complaint was you could hear everyone walking past...bed too near the door really. Staff early morning starts on a Sunday! Only a small thing though. Everything else was lovely. Big Thanks to the bar staff...kept my black cherry zombies coming...lovely.
Booked a spa day for my birthday for myself and a friend. Had problems actually trying to contact the spa beforehand as the phone was rarely answered! On arrival after nearly an hours drive we were asked to fill in forms. This is the normal procedure. What isn’t normal is being told after you have done that the therapist is off sick so only one of you can have a treatment! Another couple were told the same but they kindly said we could have both ours. Then we were told the treatments would be at different times! Not acceptable! The changing room was tiny and dirty. Tiles missing , the seat broken off the toilet, broken air dryer! My friend went to the outside jacuzzi which was unfit for use! Filthy everywhere. My anxiety was so bad we went to reception to inform them we were leaving . I contacted spa seekers with whom we had booked through and got a full refund. Whole place needs to be closed and a total refit and clean. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!
I was a bit dubious due to some reviews but we had an overnight with spa- Firstly, I agree the Spa is a bit dated BUT the staff were attentive and friendly. Lunch, dinner & breakfast were all fabulous, again with really enthusiastic staff. We stayed in one of the lodges which was perfectly clean, my only issue was it was rather warm but that's a personal preference as I sleep with windows wide open in the winter. We would and will visit again when up this way. Rooms: Really clean and comfortable Nearby activities: Otley nearby is well worth the visit and the woodland park. Walkability: Great walks from the door Food & drinks: Gorgeous food throughout the stay
My two friends and I went here on Saturday for the ‘morning experience’ at the spa. We arrived and the man at the desk of the spa was very helpful. We were sad to hear that the pool was out of action we hadn’t booked any treatments so were hoping we could spend a lot of time in the pool so that was really disappointing. As the pool was closed, all the other facilities were pretty crowded. There was a hop the pool would be back in action but it wasn’t whilst we were there. The place seemed a bit run down. Rust near the showers and the changing rooms weren’t the cleanest. On the flip side. The service and food we received in the restaurant was great. The ladies that looked after us were friendly and attentive. The light lunch was delicious and meant we didn’t find the whole experience a disappointment. Not sure if I’d go back.
4 stars for the fabulous staff! Good food. Excellent spa treatment, we enjoyed the spa area. Fantastic location! The lodge we stayed in was disappointing & really, really needs tlc. Despite the above, our hearts sank at the room, thus the overall rating. SO MUCH MORE POTENTIAL!
We provided the wedding band for Dave and Nic's wedding. Can't recommend this venue enough - first of all, the staff were absolutely brilliant, really friendly and accommodating. The venue is absolutely beautiful, with the perfect room for an evening celebration. One of the best nights of the year and really look forward to our next visit.
