Easily one of the best pubs in Oxford. Came here as a group of 3 on a Sunday late afternoon after reading the reviews about the roast dinner. This pub is tucked away on a quiet street and evidently very popular for good reason. It has table service but looks like a pub which I think was quite nice. Unfortunately we discovered that they finish serving this at 3pm which was a little disappointing! However our waiter was very good at suggesting other dishes and recommended the steak. He was very complimentary of the food and boy was he right! Everything is made at this pub. The steak was cooked from fresh, the bread arrived hot, and the food was extremely tasty. The steak platter for 3 people was a perfect portion size and a very reasonable price. The eclairs specials that night were also lovely. The service was quick and our waiter did all he could to ensure we got our food quickly as we were quite hungry. He was also very friendly and talkative which was lovely. The pub is also dog friendly for all those with pets! Would definitely visit again, and recommend!
Steak platter was phenomenal. Really tasty, perfectly good and a massive portion! There were 10 of us and it tool 2 hours for our food to come which was a bit ridiculous but when it arrived, the taste more than made up for it.
Absolutely sublime food. The steak platter was fantastic - we asked for medium rare and in my opinion was perfectly done, juice and moist. Incredibly enjoyable food. Highly recommend and will be going back!
Nice atmosphere, Good service and the sharing steak platters are amazing - a carnivores dream! Limited choice when we went for specials, but there is always something on the menu even if you don’t like/want steak. Parking is a bit tricky in the area, as a lot is residents permit only.
Really enjoyed our night here. Fabulous platters to share. Was lucky enough to get a walk up booking, just a short wait. Friendly and efficient service. Fabulous ambience.
First of all, this visit was not far off from being one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. We called and booked as our friends had been previously and highly recommended it. There was a 3 week wait time, but from what we heard it was well worth it. Upon arriving I have to admit, it’s in quite a secluded area and parking is extremely tight, as it’s just on street parking. The interior of the restaurant is lovely, really relaxed but straight away you can see how busy it is. We were greeted and directed to our table instantly and at no point in the night we’re we without a drink etc, the service was absolutely phenomenal, even if you have a drink and are just waiting for your food, the amazing staff still come over to make sure you don’t need anything and that you’re happy. We ordered the famous steak platter and it was not disappointing at all, steak was cooked to perfection, comes with chips, side salad, cabbage and bacon. Homemade tiramisu after was delicious. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. I highly, highly recommend coming here and having the steak platter, you will not be disappointed.
My word… the steak platter was incredible! The staff were super friendly and although it seems expensive, you 100% pay for what you get! So much food and every bite is so tasty. Cannot recommend enough. The whole vibe of the place was warm and welcoming, if you’re in Oxford definitely make sure you go. It’s a little walk from the centre but you’ll need it to walk off all the food We got the sharing platter for two
I would definitely visit again. The steak platter takes you to another universe. The staff was very helpful. The place had a wood stove and the combination of the excellent food and a glass of wine, makes it a unique experience that everybody needs to experience.
Visited the Chester arms earlier this evening with a friend, With expectations very high - We went for the Bread Basket, Lamb Koftas & The Signature Hamzahs Steak Platter for two and to top it off we had the Crème Brûlée as well as the Tiramisu….The meal broke all expectations and went above and beyond, Everything to the very last minute detail was perfect….perfect! It is easily the best Steak I have had to date!! Also Highly Recommend the Cabbage and bacon Salad And also special Mentions to Raf, Amazing Service Highly Recommend The Chester Arms! 10/10 Experience!
Limited but good food. Specialise in steak but vegetarian option also available. Good friendly service. Would definitely go back.
