Designed by architect Frederick William Waller and constructed in the Clasical Style in 1903, Cheltenham Town Hall is now a Grade II listed building. The first act to play there has long since been forgotten but it's worth noting that they were supported by The Rolling Stones, with a very youthful Mick Jagger strutting his stuff on the Town Hall stage, which was black and white back then. The venue has always had problems with the acoustics but the management have set traps and put poison down in the hope that the acoustic problem can be eradicated. I very much enjoyed going to see Daniel Libeskind give a talk there some years ago. Mr. Libeskind did not sing and was not accompanied by musicians. Man! It was a blast!
I have been to this venue many many times and had a great experience. It has a bar which works well, it is always possible to find parking and it seems to have a really good atmosphere.. I have marked it down because of a few things that spoil the occasion, mostly arising from the fact that the place wasn't designed to hold the number of people who attend these shows. Firstly the seating. The seats are on the small side and really packed in. This means that with the current trend for people getting 'larger', you often tend to end up being quite intimate with your neighbour. On our recent visit, I actually saw a number of people hanging over their seats into the adjacent seats. Secondly the seats aren't tierd. Yet again, on this visit, I found myself behind someone so big that I could barely see past his shoulders. I was only able to see by leaning to one side throughout the whole show. Not the most comfortable experience! Lastly the toilets. Unless you are quick off the mark, there is going to be a long queue. At my age, it can lead to some very uncomfortable hopping around!
Went to Force fest uk at Cheltenham town hall it was a starwars based comic con with guest from starwars and vender's people in cosplay and props from the films and TV series. Well run, safe, and full of cool stuff to buy,
Wonderful staff. The last concert I attended there were lots of flashing kights and the woman next to me was constantly lookin at her phone. I have epilepsy and this was bothering me. I put ny head in my hands and immeadiately a member of staff tapped me on the shoulder to check I was Ok. At a previous concert I left my water bottle behind. I sent them an email and my seat number and they kept it for me. Definately a place I would recommend. I have seen many things there over the years and have always been impressed. Diane
We saw the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra there. A fabulous show in an amazing building
