Designed by architect Frederick William Waller and constructed in the Clasical Style in 1903, Cheltenham Town Hall is now a Grade II listed building. The first act to play there has long since been forgotten but it's worth noting that they were supported by The Rolling Stones, with a very youthful Mick Jagger strutting his stuff on the Town Hall stage, which was black and white back then. The venue has always had problems with the acoustics but the management have set traps and put poison down in the hope that the acoustic problem can be eradicated. I very much enjoyed going to see Daniel Libeskind give a talk there some years ago. Mr. Libeskind did not sing and was not accompanied by musicians. Man! It was a blast!
We've visited a few times for different acts. This is a little gem, in a great location for eateries and parking.nSeating could do with a bit of updating, but is always clean and staff have always been friendly and polite
Very disappointing bar experience! I ordered 2 standard red wines and received them in flimsy single use plastic cups. I then asked for the wine to be put in glasses as we were not taking them in to the theatre area. The bar staff refused even though I could see glasses on the shelf. I certainly will not buy a drink here again as there are many local pubs nearby. Shame on you Cheltenham Town Hall for using single use plastic. It wouldn't have been so bad if the plastic had been washable The red wine was terrible and cold.
A beautiful venue and helpful staff. Evenings entertainment ruined by the inability of the sound crew to compensate for the accoustics ofvthe building. I found the singers voices echoing and being drowned out by the volume of the drums and guitars. Only one number was pleasurable acouctic the rest were ineligible.nShame there was no willingness to tone it down. The sound engineer blamed the venue, yet didn't compensate.
Fabulous venue. We've lost too many grand Town hall buildings, either demolished or turned into flats, so it's great to see this one not only preserved but also enjoyed by the community.
