I had an overnight stay while attending a wedding.. the rooms are really clean and well equipped with all essentials. The staff are second to none the service is second to none. The wedding went down without a hitch. The bride, groom and all the guests thoroughly enjoyed the event. We had a BBQ in the garden and the food was beautiful.

They so nearly redeemed themselves, despite trying to turf me out while I was half naked after having a shower due to a mix up with bookings (their cockup). Suggesting that a clearly exhausted and towel-clad motorcyclist should leave into the dark recesses of rural north Yorkshire with a bottle of wine as an apology but nowhere else to go was pretty bad, but forgivable when the young lad who made the mistake didn't know how to deal with the situation and wasn't getting decent guidance from the duty manager. Bad, but as I say it would have been forgotten.....and yet....and yet... ...the next morning the owner was in and he confronted me with "You are the one who wouldn't accept a simple mistake had been made and leave". Apparently he'd been forced to come in and find alternative accommodation for the person who'd been lined up for the room. He made a big deal out of having to do this. (Yes, mate, that's usually how it works. It's called hospitality and you're in it.) I thought that a bit of firm but fair reasoning would result in an apology and a handshake, but he only got more obstinate. In his view I should have taken the wine and refund and left his hotel (with nowhere to go at 2030hrs in rural North Yorkshire) because the room *they'd given me* was meant for somebody else. If he'd said sorry at any point I'd have taken it on the chin but, frankly, the guy wouldn't know the concept of "guest relations" if it was written on a big red bus with Boris Johnson in a porter's uniform waving from the driver's window. Separately and more seriously, an elderly guest was stuck outside the hotel at 2300hrs, trying to get in, as her key wouldn't get her through the door. Nobody was answering the night number, apparently. I called down to her and went down the two storeys to let her in. When I told the owner about this issue with access (for a vulnerable guest) he said "Well she should know she is here three days" or words to that effect. Again, her fault. She was in her 70s. Summary: a shabby hotel with some nice staff working for a cynical proprietor who doesn't deserve your money. Avoid.

A very disappointing visit to a place that i have enjoyed very fine food at in previous years. Drinks order messed up. Burnt toast served with a starter. Chicken was dry and the brownie served with so little ice cream. Staff failed to control unruly children & inebriated mother who turned on a fellow diner that complained. A late afternoon Mothers Day booking where I queried if the food would still be at its best before booking. Reduced choices and charged extra for the special day compared to normal Sunday prices.

Hotel in centre of Stokesley. Nicely decorated bar and restaurant area. Our three course meal was very good. Restaurant empty apart from ourselves (Thursday night) but still seemed cosy.

Stars are for the food. Great Food, good venue for a very relaxed wedding. Sadly they are charging £90 for pokey scruffy rooms. Been in much nicer for half the price.
