Where do I begin? It's hard to do any negative review for me because I genuinely do not like dumping on people's efforts but I'd be wrong to ignore a responsibility to others who may throw good money after my own very badly wasted £40 for one night here. Bluntly, it's a fleapit. Quite literally: my first moments after arrival were spent trying to squash a large bluebottle that was still flying about in November! In Montrose! I had turned up at 2pm to be greeted by a handwritten note stuck to the door with a mobile number. When I called I was told the place was locked-up until 4pm because the proprietor was 'taking her daughter out'. I wasn't even able to drop off my luggage so had to traipse it around town for two hours before the doors would be unlocked. (This was winter in the north of Scotland, btw, just so you get the picture). If that was the end of the complaint there'd be no review but, God, where do I begin? The entire place stank, a combination of damp and essence of vintage nursery home. The furniture was all house clearance, horrible teak eyesores, tatty unmatched carpets, 70s magnolia and wood-chip on the walls, and of course, charity store bedding. Imagine how that all smelt! Vile, rank, vomit inducing. Think the worst student digs you ever stayed in! But ... colder. So much colder. This is the North of Scotland in November were talking about here and my teeth were chittering the whole time. I had to wear my parka, gloves and boots all night! Now, all that is a far cry from the pictures on the site. That was nothing like this place; likewise the reviews, I have no idea where they got those reviews but I have my suspicions - there was no way those reviewers are talking about the same place. This is a 'hotel' also, with no shower. How in 2016 can a hotel have no shower? There was a bath but who would have taken a bath in such a freezing cold place? Hardly convenient either. Breakfast was a Kellogg's variety pack and a stale croissant in a Tesco bag put outside my door the night before. No cutlery or crockery but picnic fork and paper plate. This bughouse - I can call it that, I had bugs in my room - with the tatty furnishings and wind-blown curtains (through a closed window) is a disgrace. All my concerns were laughed off by the proprietor, who is laughing all the way to the bank by robbing unsuspecting punters, as 'oh, it's a draughty old house there's nothing we can do!' Not good enough. Really, this place is criminal. I've never lodged complaints before but I'll be looking into how to have this place investigated. At the very least those reviews need to be looked at. Do yourself a favour and run a mile.
