Just a basic train station. The station is getting a revamp at present. You have a ticket kiosk machine on both sides. Toilets on stand one. Covered waiting room and kiosk machine selling whatever drinks and chocolates
Redcar always brilliant, train station is ideally located close to the sea-front and town There is a foot bridge and access for wheel chair users off the main road via the level crossing. The station is clean and trains regular.
It's a bit scruffy. It has said "call in sick" on the wall for years, and the council cannot be arsed to update the 5-year-old poster opposite platform 1. Just saying.
It's a great pity the imposing and historic station building to the north of the current westbound platform wasn't retained when the station was redeveloped and is currently lying derelict. Its relatively small new replacement is fairly nondescript and whilst there is at least a ticket office this only opens for a restricted number of hours each day and closes for lunch no doubt to save money on staffing costs. There are at least still fairly regular services in either direction and waiting shelters on both platforms but one cannot help feel that inhabitants of the mighty Redcar deserve better on the rail transport front.
Great station for rail travel, as you can go to many places from here including Middlesbrough, Darlington, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, York and Manchester, as the Trans Pennine Train from Saltburn stops here. Its just a shame the station is not very big and looks scruffy. More money should be spent on making the station look like a station fit for the 21st Century.
This comment/review reflects the level of service at the ticket office itself. The member of staff is always polite and extremely helpful. It’s a shame the marvellous building opposite is not used as a railway station as it once was. We’re told it’s down to cost, I don’t buy that quite frankly.
The platforms aren’t even long enough for the trains that stop here. Only 4 carriages of a 6 car train being bale to get on the platform and open is a joke.
Scruffy station, Litter every where.
The next train to arrive at platform 2 is the........ Choo Choo!
Good ticket office with helpful staff but closes at 14:00 and unfortunately lots of litter
