Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel

Story

Castle Bromwich Hall is a Jacobean Mansion in the village of Castle Bromwich, which is situated in the northern part of the West Midlands county, England. It is a Grade I listed building.HistoryThe Hall was built between 1557 and 1585 by Sir Edward Devereux, 1st Baronet of Castle Bromwich, MP for Tamworth in Staffordshire. It was single storey with a plain entrance. It was then bought by Sir John Bridgeman (son of Orlando Bridgeman, keeper of the Great Seal) in 1657. He extended and improved the property in 1672, adding the second floor and a large front porch. The porch projected out by ten feet from the main building. Above the twisted columns of grey stone of the porch are two figures in niches, called Peace and Plenty. The coat of arms and monogram of Sir John is carved into the stone above the doorway. The Bridgemans were created Barons Bradford in 1794 and Earls of Bradford in 1815. A marriage brought Weston Park into their possession after which the Castle Bromwich Hall was often rented out.FeaturesThe Hall is famous for having twelve windows and four dormers above . The garden door passed through a grapevine which was always trimmed into the form of a cross. The Hall and Long Gallery were panelled with dark oak timber, and the dining room with pitch pine from the United States. The ceilings were adorned with designs of fruits and shells. In 1810 a tapestry of three sections made in Brussels was hung in the drawing room. One of the windows in the Long Gallery had the arms of Sir Edward Devereux and his wife Katherine. There were many secret doorways and hiding holes. Built into the high garden wall was a brick open air cold water bath dated 1733. The garden maze with 6 ft high holly hedges was a mirror image of that at Hampton Court. The North Garden has double iron gates which lead into the adjacent Church grounds.

Booked a surprise birthday party for Sunday lunch in these wonderful surroundings and the food and service was exceptional. I was a little apprehensive as none of our guests had eaten here before but any reservations I had were unfounded as everything was exceptional. I took a cake, balloons and decorations in the day before and they decorated the table for my guests including the cake. My thanks to Sophie and all the staff for making the lunch a memorable one and for going over and above my expectations on the day. If you haven’t already visited this venue I strongly recommend it.

Phoned on Monday to inquire about booking the dinning room for 60 - 70 people for a funeral and was told I would have to come and see the events organizer but she was on holiday until Saturday. I explained that I was familiar with the lay out, that I had other options I was looking at and that I just wanted a price and availability over the phone and in the circumstances, I could not wait for nearly a week for some one to talk to. I was told that the assistant Manager (Alex i think) was upstairs with a member of staff and unavailable, so I left a message for Him to call me back.....its Wednesday and Im still waiting. This is so typical of Castle Bromwich Hall. Their missing such a trick here....They have a wonderful building in a great setting but the professionalism is woeful. I cant say that the customer service is bad, its just very amateur, the staff seem untrained and unfamiliar with how a restaurant should work and if the management cant be bothered to call me back with what would have been a £700 - £800 (plus bar) booking well that's just to bad. I have now made alternative arrangements.

Visited this hotel hoping to have a lovely afternoon tea with my sister she is allergic to cheese and I am vegetarian on arrival we we're shown to our table next to another occupied table so my sister requested another table in the corner so as we could have a conversation which could not be overheard which was done within a minute as we were seated we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and orders taken when the beverages we're brought to us we were asked if we were ready for our "afternoon tea" as we were still chatting declined it for another 10 mins. We then advised the waitress whose name I didn't catch that we was now ready she gave us a three tier cake stand with 2 egg mayo finger sandwiches and 1 ham finger sandwich for the person with cheese allergy and 2 cheese and pickle finger sandwiches and 1 egg mayo finger sandwich for the vegetarian 2 warm scones and a plate of stale choc bites plain profiteroles and lemon cake bites along with 4 slices of Victoria sponge that was quite soggy on the bottom dirty cutlery and frankly no service when required. This is the worse afternoon tea I have ever had and believe me I have had a few I personally would not recommend this place for afternoon tea to ANYBODY what a disappointment !!!!!
