I recently instructed Sean regarding a round of redundancies taking place at my workplace. Absolutely excellent. I cannot praise the service I received enough. Canter, Levin & Berg have completely restored my faith in the legal system after a previous bad experience I had elsewhere. I would describe my experience with this firm as shocking, traumatic and probably my biggest regret of the last 4 years of my life. I did previously attempt to leave a review but received threats from Martin Malone. I was still going through court at the time, so that wasn't something that I could deal with. I now feel equipped to deal with that, and feel it's important that anyone considering this firm see's this review. Especially if your case involves domestic abuse. I was not satisfied with my representation, their advice, conduct, or their response times, I tried to escalate my concerns and rather than them being acknowledged and taken on board, I was blamed and dropped by the firm in the middle of my proceedings. I went to MSB solicitors, who I now recommend to everyone, especially those who have experienced domestic abuse. They were just incredible. My experience with them compared to Canter Levin & Berg was 'night and day'. It became quickly apparent that I had been right in my feeling that the advice and representation that I got from Canter Levin & Berg was very poor. With my new solicitor and barrister describing their work as being cut out for them due to the work Canter Levin & Berg had done, or failed to do. My voice was simply not being heard whilst I was represented by Canter Levin & Berg, not by the firm, and therefore not by the judge. I was advised by Canter Levin & Berg that 'Domestic Abuse' was 'not my strongest argument' and so I should avoid 'pushing that', I was also told that I could not say that ethical Veganism is a belief system, and that a separate issue was that my daughter was allergic to dairy, I was instead told it had to be one or the other. This of course is ridiculous, as I knew at the time, but was told that I either took their advice despite my concerns, or I must accept that 'the trust had broken down' Which legally enables them to drop a client mid proceedings. There were many other issues like this. I was later advised by my Barrister that she just couldn't understand why the statements didn't reflect our experiences, and she ended up taking longer than we had been assigned in court because she wanted to make sure that the judge considered that not mentioned/made clear in previous statements and by my previous representation. It is of course so important that we make the judge and CAFCASS aware of the full picture in as much detail as possible. Our representation should be helping us to do this, whilst implementing their understanding of the law, and presenting the information in a way that will best show our challenges and position to the court. Even better if they can use their experience and knowledge to offer suggestions, that we can then offer to the court, to improve the situation. Canter Levin & Berg didn't do this. In fact, due to Canter Levin & Berg telling me to leave bits of our situation out, my argument when set against what I was asking for, simply didn't make sense. Luckily I got good representation before the final hearing in MSB solicitors, and was able to have much implemented into the order to prevent the abuse, and acknowledge the differences between a belief system and dietary issues. The man that has weaponised our daughter and covertly abused me for years was held accountable on the stand, and most importantly, I felt heard and affirmed, which ultimately is what every client wants when looking for representation. We can't control the outcome of proceedings, but whatever the outcome, we must feel heard, it is the difference between finding peace in the outcome or being haunted by it. Whilst represented by Canter Levin & Berg Solicitors I felt silenced, gaslit and in the end bullied.
