Canalhouse

Story

Opened in 2000 on the lower floors of the former Canal museum, the Canalhouse is famous for having a canal that extends into the building complete with resident narrow boats.

Our aim is simple to offer the best craft and world beer experience possible, paralleled with an extensive choice of real ale. With the largest selection of ‘World Beers’ in the East Midlands, travel the world with us guided by our ever changing beer menu. The Canalhouse currently offers over 150 bottled beers from around the world. With a huge selection of wines and spirits and an extensive range of up to 13 trad ciders, 6 real ales and up to 10 craft beers we truly are the bar of choice. A versatile food offer is available daily with up to 15 specials.

At the Canalhouse we have a large events venue above our main bar that can fit up to 200 people, ideal for any occasion from corporate events to wedding receptions. We pride ourselves on our standards and service and can tailor any event to your individual requirements.

A large covered beer garden situated by the canal side enables people to sit outside no matter the weather.

Great location and one of the largest selections of beers in the city. The Canal House building is historic, but on warm days the outside tables in the courtyard are where you want to be.

Used to be a worksheet for canal boat repairs and so still has a 4 boat canal birth inside the building. Then it became a Canal Museum. Then a restaurant. Has a large selection of beers and real ales and ignoring the menu and reading the specials a good selection of meals. The food was pretty good and didn't seem to be the centrally-booked-and -locally-reheated type. I had a steak and chips and it was really good. Best i have had for ages. It was also fun that we took a couple of visiting Italian friends along who had never seen a real English pub before and the indoor dock clinched convincing them it was a good idea. They also have outdoor seating right down the the canal and the Italians brought their two terriers with them no problem. A really good evening out.

Perfect place for a drink on a sunny summers evening. In winter you can enjoy there wide selection of drinks inside with an interior which contains a canal boat!

This place is such a little gem. It is a 5min walk from the train station. There is a lovely outdoor patio that is perfect when the weather is nice. The staff are really helpful and chatty and know their beer. They have several IPAs on tap. The food was good, however the potato skins were not great.

Really good outdoor area. Not much space indoors but the canal boats and bridge over to the bar is a nice feature. There is an upstairs area for functions too.
