Café Source

About

Contemporary brasserie in basement of a former church, serving classic and Modern Scottish dishes.

Story

Carefully chosen Scottish ingredients are the focus of Cafe Source, a stylish cafe bar in the historic setting of Glasgow’s St Andrew’s in the Square. A former church, St Andrew’s in the Square is now a stunning cultural venue with an emphasis on roots, folk, country and traditional music and dance. Downstairs from the sympathetically restored auditorium, Cafe Source is a sleek contemporary space which specialises in modern Scottish cooking.

Our restaurant sits in Glasgow city centre but our menu uses food from all over Scotland. Well regarded suppliers such as Ramsay’s of Carluke or Taylor’s of Strathaven are proudly listed as is the provenance of many of the ingredients, be they West Coast mussels, Howgate brie or oatcakes from Arran. Dishes with a distinct Scottish flavour include the smoked haddock and leek tart served with a drappit egg or the Slow Roasted Belly of Ramsay's Pork. While the ingredients are almost always Scottish, the dishes are not necessarily so. Our other favourites include Cafe Source club sandwich, Confited Lamb Shank with a mixed bean, chorizo & potato cassoulet or the Pan- Fried Fillet of Sea Bass with Nicoise style crushed potatoes. We even have a croque monsieur toasted sandwich although, of course, the ham comes from Ayrshire. Take a look at our Sample menus and see for yourself. All in all there is something for everyone.

We also have the monthly ever popular Cosmopolitan Big Band night which sees crowds of young and the slightly older enjoy all the classics from Mack the knife to Superstition. It’s an atmosphere that has to be experienced.

We have full disabled access and our dishes can be tailored to accommodate most allergies.

It’s a not very friendly ‘dog friendly’ cafe; having arrived with my small dog I was told to sit in an isolated corner away from other diners so as not to annoy them. £18.50 for a poor salad and plastic bottle of mineral water which Tesco sells £2 for a pack of 8 bottles. I wasn’t offered salt a pepper. I was very disappointed with the supervisor’s attitude, the food and considered it very expensive given the poor quality. My dog expressed his opinion upon leaving
The food here is lovely. We had the Cullen skunk and the avocado and poached eggs. The reason for the three stars is the lack of atmosphere, cheap looking tables and lack of atmosphere which does nothing to promote the kitchen’s efforts.
Lunch was Fish and chips x2 Battered fish- good. Portion small Chips - warm, over cooked, burned taste, soggy Mushy peas- tiny portion chopped garden peas Side Salad- green leaves and stuff - OK Lemon and Kiwi Tarte with raspberry coulis X2- Actually Lemon Tarte soggy, rubbery, tasteless with 2 withered slices of Kiwi, thin splashes of red stuff presumably Raspberry Coulis not enough to taste. Yuk!! Tea- I suspect a cheap catering brand PreBought soft drinks Coke etc- good! Cost/ £49.50 Very disappointing to be fair I have had much better here on other occasions
My wife picked this place and I wasn't really convinced, but after trying their chicken with haggis and bacon I would like to visit them again. Nice place, friendly staff, good food.Food: 5/5
Best fish and chips I have tasted in a long time !Food: 5/5
A nice restaurant once you find it as it is within a sports club and not well signposted. Very clean with a small menu but the food was freshly cooked and hot. Service was great with pleasant staff. Note that a 10% service charge is added to the bill automatically at the end
Turned up on spec at lunchtime and was fitted in to an already busy service. The service was very friendly and fairly swift. There is a really good choice of modern and traditional dishes on the menu and the food was very tasty and well presented at reasonable prices for Glasgow's busy West End. This is a nice quiet location tucked off the main road and it has a really nice buzzy atmosphere at lunchtime. A longtime favourite for meeting up with friends or taking mum for a really nice lunch when back in town. Parking: Limited number of spaces outside the café but paid street parking is also available nearby. Wheelchair accessibility: Two disabled parking spaces are available just outside the entrance to the cafe.
Food quality could be improved for those prices. Menu could be more tailored to a sports club. Nice selection of beers. Indoor environment and service could be much improved.
Fantastic cafe and amazing hospitality from all staff. As a member at the club we are well looked after every single week and staff are always making sure your well fed and watered at all timesFood: 5/5
We had a funeral party. Excellent venue, nice location, great food, attentive staff. Jacqui acted as a meet and greeter to us. Wonderful service, nothing was any trouble for them. I highly recommend for this type of function as sensitive to our needs.
