Cây Tre

About

Our modern Vietnamese restaurant in Soho emulates busy Vietnamese life, serving classic pho and aromatic street food.

Story

If you’re looking for Soho’s most authentic Vietnamese restaurant, look no further than Cây Tre. Combining the unique aromatic flavours of Vietnam with an atmosphere replicating the hustle and bustle of busy Vietnamese life, Cây Tre will sweep you off your feet and drop you in the land of the rising sun. As with all of our Vietnamese restaurants, we pride ourselves on offering an authentic taste of Vietnam using fresh, well sourced ingredients from the British Isles.

We have a saying at Cây Tre, which is 'to make the simplest of dishes taste good you need the ingredients of time and passion' and you can be assured we have plenty of both. Every dish, from our street food snacks to our a la carte delicacies, is lovingly prepared with this saying in mind. Take our classic beef Pho for example, which takes over 18 hours to make! Likewise, our wine list is carefully selected by renowned wine writer Malcolm Gluck to match the aromatic dishes on the menu.

What’s more, we also offer a Vietnamese takeaway service and can deliver to your home or office. So, if you’re in London’s Soho and are looking for sophisticated Asian cuisine on the go, be sure to give us a call! We also provide catering for events and parties. Visited for lunch. I tried to book but I couldn’t manage as they were full, so I just went there. The staff was very polite and got us a table. All the food we ordered was tasty and delicious. Definitely of our liking! I have been to Cay Tre many times over the past 10 years and I was never disappointed. Of course the place it’s busy! You are in Soho! What do you expect?! Very honest prices as well, taking into consideration the location and the food portions. We ordered many different things from the menu and would definitely recommend the rolls and the noodles bowls! Absolutely delicious!
I've been having dinner with some friends and it's been a fantastic experience. The food was very good, especially the beef Pho and the fried noodles. All the staff was very professional with Long being particularly nice as he recommended us the best dishes and had a very good sense of humour. I'll be back for sure!Food: 5/5
I could feel the care put into the food, and it was so delicious. It was an incredibly tasty meal during my trip. I highly commend the staff cooking in the kitchen. Thanks to you, I have great memories of Vietnamese cuisineFood: 5/5
I was craving Pho for a long time and Cay Tre did not disappoint. I got the Original Beef Pho with steak and brisket. I also ordered Beef Tripe and requested to have it served as a side instead of putting it in the soup as an additional topping, which they happily granted. I wished they could have put more herbs on the side. Maybe I could have asked, but was too hungry too try. It is more pricey than other Vietnamese restaurants but they have a large portion. Also, their Drip Coffee is a must-try. Overall, I enjoyed it.
I was recommended this place by a Vietnamese friend and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the portion size of the Pho was respectable. Would return.Food: 5/5
I had a gathering with my friend last Christmas and came back a few weeks ago. Decent amount of food. They adjust the flavour a bit to suit more customers but it is still quite close to Vietnamese home-cooked meal. The space is quite small for such a popular branch. So chatting is pretty inconvenient, and the staff cannot take a good care of every table. All in all, recommended if you crave for good Vietnamese food, especially the soup. Although price is reasonable in the central London, you should be prepared for that and service fee.
I don’t like to leave bad reviews but tbh I’ve never been to places like this, where waitress just came to the table and ask if she could remove the plate. It is true that I just finished my dish, but it’s merely after 1 minute that I put down my chopsticks. At least let customers sit for a bit to let food digest? I know the restaurant is busy, but this is not a fast food place. It is a RESTAURANT. To be polite I didn’t ask to take out the service charge. But will never come again or recommend to my friend. Food actually tastes not bad. Especially crispy imperial roll. Thank you chef.
We were recommended to this place by a Vietnamese friend who spoke highly of this place. The food is far more authentic than usual pho you get elsewhere. Banh chuon is an interesting dish and a good recommendation to try something new. They have a set lunch menu which was good value for money. Tofu bun no hue was also customised for a vegetarian option as they replaced the beef broth with a vegetarian option. Overall a nice ambience and good place to try Vietnamese cuisine. Vegetarian options: They can customise the dish in vegetarian broth
I had a pretty average experience at this restaurant. The Banh cuon was delicious and I highly enjoyed it. However, the beef pho was not good at all. The beef was really difficult to chew and not tasty. Seeing other reviews, I see that this is experienced by many others. I would have expected better meat since I paid £16.50 for it. Service is fast but the interior and atmosphere is pretty average.
They do authentic and delicious Vietnamese food. Be prepared to queue up for a table if you try to walk in with more than 1 person. I am. It sure if they accept booking.Food: 5/5
