Lanzhou Lamian Noodle Bar is one of those rare gems in London that you almost don't want to tell anyone about, just to keep it your little secret. Tucked away in an unassuming corner, this tiny restaurant delivers an authentic experience that transports you straight to the heart of China. The handmade noodles are the star of the show, crafted with a skill and precision that’s mesmerizing to watch. The texture is perfect—chewy, springy, and cooked to absolute perfection. Each bowl is a work of art, brimming with rich, flavorful broth, tender meats, and fresh herbs that create a symphony of tastes. The ambiance is as genuine as the food—small, bustling, and full of character. The simplicity of the decor only adds to its charm, making you feel like you've stumbled upon something truly special. It’s the kind of place that locals cherish and food enthusiasts dream of discovering. But here’s the thing: while I’m sharing this with you, part of me wishes I could keep this spot all to myself. It’s that good. If you do decide to visit, just remember—it’s a place worth savoring quietly.
Next to Leicester sq exit, the place is always busy with people in and out. The menu has improved over the last couple of years. We ordered a seafood fried noodles and a veg spring roll. The food was pipping hot. Service was fine and fairly quick, be prepared to sit next to strangers when eating upstairs. There are additional seating downstairs and outside too... Vegetarian options: Veg options available
The best late night meal in London Chinatown. Although the restaurant is small, but the vibe hits different when you really have a meal inside. Good price, home-made noodles and soup are definitely unbeatable, fill your stomach with delicious and keep yourself warm!Food: 5/5
Good place to sample handmade noodles, either in savoury soups or fried. You can actually watch the pulling and stretching of the noodles by hand. A word of caution - be prepared to share tables with strangers. Staff can be loud in their thick Mandarin accent. You will also be startled by a loud bang - the noodle maker is smashing the big noodle dough onto the table. All these add to an authentic chinese restaurant experience. Please don't ask for a fork to twirl your noodles with ; it's like asking for a pair of chopsticks in an Italian restaurant ! Value for money. Servings are big. I would recommend the sour & spicy La Mian noodles and fried dumplings
Edited from a 4 to 5 after trying a more expensive handmade noodle place in London and returning. This restaurant and the experience is a 5/5 IF you can sit outside and IF you get the noodles in the sour spicy soup. ……. The housemade noodles can choose thick knife cut noodles or thinner hand pulled la mian in the sour spicy soup is 5/5. The fried noodles are tasty but way too salty. They have housemade spicy chili crisp you can ask for. Ambiance is not pleasant. Cost is low for the area.
I had lamian minced beef. Delicious. The portion is really big. The place is quite small. I was just by myself and they squeezed me sitting in the corner with a stranger. No waitress offered for a drink.Food: 5/5
Reasonably priced and the food portions are huge! Halal. My friend and I ordered the Stewed Beef Noodle Soup. She ordered very thin noodles, while I ordered flat ones. It all came down to £12 each. The pictures don't do the bowl sizes justice. The bowls were really large and we were struggling so much to finish but it was absolutely delicious! Personally, I would just get one bowl to share with a friend next time because it was so much for me. The broth and beef before adding chilli oil had a subtle creamy, nutritious and clean taste to them. I've had lamian in London before and this is probably the top when it comes down to authenticity and portion size. The tables, the layout of the condiments and utensils, the view of the talented chefs hand-pulling the noodles with immaculate skill and strength, just the whole atmosphere took me back to the liveliness and cosiness of restaurants in Asia. The food also arrived extremely fast, which further amplified the chefs's expertise. This is honestly one of the best places to go for comfort food. There were a lot of customers who also came to eat alone, the atmosphere is great for coming with friends as well as grabbing a bowl just for yourself. I loved the way people were comfortable enough to just pick up their bowls and drink the soup! I think introverts could come here for solo eating as the tables are arranged in the corner of all the bustling. Nevertheless, you may need to share the table with strangers as they are those long tables with one long bench on either side, but everyone seems to just mind their own business and enjoy the food and it's an overall friendly atmosphere. They also have seating downstairs and outside! The air is filled with chatter and the sounds of the chefs working on their craft so there's no room for awkward silences at all, you can just enjoy your food without having to think of the next line to a conversation. You also don't have to worry about where to look as an introvert, you can simply just look at the chefs cooking haha! I highly recommend this place!
Amazing food but the rest not so great We got the noodles which were delicious and the portions were very big however the seating was quite unpleasant, there was a wardrobe behind us and employees kept squeezing between us and the other table lifting bags above our heads The worst part however was the hallway to the toilet which was also close to the kitchen, in said hallway an employee was crushing garlic with a hammer right on the floor where people passed to the toilet and also used his foot to hold the mesh bag in place. I’m not that easily turned off but if it was any other person I’m sure this would’ve led to a 1* review Lastly they offer no receipts so when they told us the price it seemed a bit high but we had places to be and I couldn’t be bothered to argue
Very down to earth noodle place. However if you favour a quiet isolated place, this is not for you. You could literally hear and see the noodle guy making noodles behind you and thats how you know their noodles is handmade. The noodles are chewy and the soup is well-flavoured. We spent 15 £ per person on average. Limited seats inside though. Fast service if you are here just for a quick meal.
Beef noodles are surprisingly good - although not the authentic Lanzhou style. Good value for money with big portions. Can feel very crowded!Food: 5/5
